How do you clean baby after eating?

I am fed up of getting through so many flannels. They are heavy and bulky for the washing machine & dryer. What do you use? I have tried a bowl of water but my baby tries to drink it or pushes it out of my hand and it spills on the floor. Baby wipes are costly and not good for the planet. Would love to hear what others do!! Thanks!!

Water wipes here.. then dettol the highchair with a cloth

BHRK · 21/09/2023 20:34

Flannels and biodegradable baby wipes at a push.

RedRobyn2021 · 21/09/2023 20:35

We used flannels and still do.

RedRobyn2021 · 21/09/2023 20:37

Sorry they aren't flannels we use these

They are light and soft, we found flannels too rough when she was really little, she would get upset.

Dishcloth with warm water and a dash of washing up liquid. Follow up with tea towel to try. Dishcloth can then go back in soapy water to be washed and used for the rest of the day / couple of days.

Like decades of women before me! 😁

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 21/09/2023 20:37

Flannels aren’t heavy and bulky though are they…

Flannels here or cotton wool dipped in water to deal with the first pass.

JamMakingWannaBe · 21/09/2023 20:38

Sounds like you need a thinner and/or smaller flannel.
Try Little Lamb washable wipes. Very quick to dry. Once baby doesn't need them, you can use them as make-up remover cloths.

Reach9kat · 21/09/2023 20:38

Flannel but I bought some in the baby aisle in tesco. They are thinner and smaller then normal face flannels. I rinse them and do not use a new one each meal.

NuffSaidSam · 21/09/2023 20:39

Small face cloth type things i.e. flannels but half the size and thinner.

I use one per day (rinse between meals).

Seven small flannels a week is really not a problem laundry wise!

onthesofaeating · 21/09/2023 20:40

I used to just take her to the sink and wash her jags and face with warm water. Now she's a bit cleaner I use reusable wipes - similar material to a flannel.

MoreMarmaladeSandwiches · 21/09/2023 20:41

Have you tried reusable baby wipes? They are much thinner than a flannel so not at heavy duty to wash.
I find them really useful for the after meal clean up.

StormzMe · 21/09/2023 20:42

A muslin cloth soaked in warm water with a little soap if needed, rinse and repeat as needed for baby and then rinse and use again for the highchair and/or table and/or floor (floor last of course). I would still clean the highchair/table with surface spray or whatever but this would at least get rid of the worst of the mess first. Only one muslin cloth needed for each meal and they are easy to wash and quick to dry.

NannyR · 21/09/2023 20:44

Reusable wipes or a flannel - rinse it out in hot water, wring it out and use it again, no need to wash them after each use.

justwantobeamum · 21/09/2023 20:45

Face cloths 29p each from home bargains. Take a fresh one out in the morning. Use all day. Throw in wash at night.

AliasGrape · 21/09/2023 20:46

We used cheeky wipes had a set for bum and a separate set for hands/ face

If I was doing it again I don’t think I’d bother I would just buy cheap washcloths/ muslin cloths. Although we are still using the hand/ face ones and she’s 3.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 21/09/2023 20:46

Burts Bees super thin baby flannels. Or water wipes. High chair gets a wipe down with a sponge, greedy dogs clean the floor.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 20:48

How are flannels heavy and bulky? I use 2 a day for my face they make no difference at all to my washes. I use the super soft fleece sort.

Ribeebie · 21/09/2023 20:48

Another vote for cheeky wipes

Oldraver · 21/09/2023 20:50

I used to keep a box (old wet wipe box) with some cut up squares of thin fleece.

One colour fir arses one for face and hands, basically small flannels

Witchymcwitch · 21/09/2023 20:55

Just slung them under my arm and ran them under the tap using my hand to get the worst off.
Dishcloth and soapy water for the high chair.
Dog took care of the floor.

Devilsmommy · 21/09/2023 20:58

Baby flannel with warm water and baby body wash. They're way smaller than normal flannels and softer too

Iguanas369 · 21/09/2023 21:04

Cheeky wipes pack of 25 cloths. Wet under the tap. Wipe down the high chair, hands and face. Throw straight in the washing machine along with whatever else I'm washing that day. Been using every day for months and all good so far. So easy.

301963Laurie · 21/09/2023 21:06

I just used baby wipes.

SweetAndSourChick3n · 21/09/2023 21:10
