How do you clean baby after eating?

I am fed up of getting through so many flannels. They are heavy and bulky for the washing machine & dryer. What do you use? I have tried a bowl of water but my baby tries to drink it or pushes it out of my hand and it spills on the floor. Baby wipes are costly and not good for the planet. Would love to hear what others do!! Thanks!!

Dishcloth with warm water and a dash of washing up liquid. Follow up with tea towel to try. Dishcloth can then go back in soapy water to be washed and used for the rest of the day / couple of days.

Like decades of women before me! 😁

You clean your baby with a dishcloth and washing up liquid?

Reusable wipes, like flannels but less bulky. Would recommend Close for this purpose.

Are muslin cloths not in vogue any more? We used them when both DC were small. They acted as face cloths, bibs, body flannels, sun shades, wipes, even makeshift sun hats. Light as a feather to wash and dry in an instant.

I'm another for the dishcloth!

Cheeky wipes. And appalled someone puts Dettol anywhere near where a baby will eat

BigBoysDontCry · 21/09/2023 21:30

This was a pretty standard day in our house, a flannel or wipes just doesn't do the job. Powerwash in the garden definitely a better option 😂

NameChange30 · 21/09/2023 21:32

Cloth wipes, smaller and thinner than flannels, same idea. We have the cheeky wipes ones but plenty of options out there. Like a PP, fresh one in morning, rinse throughout the day, in wash at end of day.

We have separate cloths that we use for wiping table and chair.

I can't believe people would use disposable wet wipes at home?! We take them out and about with us, for convenience, but would never use them at home.

Reusable cloth wipes, muslinz brand are my favourite

bakewellbride · 21/09/2023 21:36

Cheeky wipes, they're amazing

chineapplepunks · 21/09/2023 22:30

Reusable wipes. They're like flannels but a lot smaller and thinner.

WineIsMyCarb · 22/09/2023 13:04

Yeah @GoodVibesHere . Never seen anyone do anything else, apart from baby wipes if out. In a restaurant or cafe then a paper napkin dipped in white wine also very effective.... or so I've heard.Wink

Cheeky wipes. They are smaller than our actual facecloths ( about 1/2 the size). They don’t add anything to laundry adding a pile every few days. Ours are still the same ones we bought from newborn for Ds and he’s 3 now. He is just starting to wash hands and face more at sink, but cloths still used a lot.

Monkeymonkeymoo · 22/09/2023 14:27

My aunt whose a childminder uses cheeky wipes for every except nappy changes (she gets through a lot and her washing machine copes!)

At home we just strip my son to his nappy to feed him and then hose him down in the shower afterwards (if he’s very messy it’s quicker than trying to wipe him).
I usually use a cleaning cloth (I have a set in a different colour to my other cleaning cloths) to wipe down the highchair followed by the floor (they only get used once and then washed on a high temp).

OneMoreCookieMonster · 22/09/2023 15:14

When I weaned dc1 we did Muslins and water, wet wipes, even paper towel and for his chair we used a sponge/cloth and eco friendly non tainting spray to clean. The tray went into the sink and was washed as you would dishes.

I would clean baby as they eat so it didn't ever get too horrendous unless we had scrabbled eggs, mashed potatoes or anything that stained (bolognese is dead to me)

Thanks everyone. I’ve concluded my flannels are far too big and far too thick. Will buy the thinner and cheaper ones. Thanks for helping a sleep deprived mum!!
