no

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:22

oh ok, is it cuz its too salty?

OP posts:
MeMySonAndI · 03/02/2008 00:23

I would say chorizo is far too salty and fatty for a child that age. (It is not just about taste but about what their little bodies can take).

I would wait for prawns too, complex proteins are not easily diggested by such a young gut. She may be fine, but there is a risk of allergies developing.

mumemma · 03/02/2008 00:23

What's wrong with prawns? My dcs have eaten them since pretty early on. I'm not a pretentious twat, just got bored of preparing special food, particularly when dc2 came along.

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:25

oh ok thanks, glad i asked now
its a bit of a minefield isnt it

OP posts:
pankhurst · 03/02/2008 00:26

seafood not recommended.

by the ones who make the rules.

they don't make a rule about chorizo but actually there is a lot of salt in it, so chorizo no as well.

I woudln't mind coming round though to all these lovely diners that are being offered. could do with cheering up at the moment.

nappyaddict · 03/02/2008 00:26

the fsa says seafood is fine from 6 months.

Clary · 03/02/2008 00:29

I thought seafood was 2 yrs actually but it's a while since I weaned anyone so I may well be out of date

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:31

OP posts:
pankhurst · 03/02/2008 00:36

i like chinese leaf.

and chocolate.

could you make something out of those two???

talktothebees · 03/02/2008 00:38

robin my DD also 7mo and my head also currently spinning with the balance of foods thing and not too much salt/sugar, getting enough carbs, getting enough protein, on and on it goes. Personally I can't wait until DD refuses anything but Haribo and Cheese Strings. If you fancy some moral support (or just someone to point and laugh at) you can CAT me.Are you BLWing?

DD had some bacon this morning (awaits crack team of tutting HVs screaming to the door in a specially adapted Disapproval Ambulance)

madamez · 03/02/2008 00:39

What, together? SOunds a bit icky-poncy-Heston-BLumenthal to me. But FWIW chorizo is a bit salty for a DC under 12 months and I have a feeling that seafood/shellfish is also inadvisable for babies.

Shitemum · 03/02/2008 00:41

Avoid smoked salmon , kippers etc too - they are too salty.

pankhurst · 03/02/2008 00:42

prawn and chorizo together is sort of SURF and TURF isn't it???

Chinese leaf and chocolate together - that could be a bit gross.

but they're together after you've eaten them so...

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:45

i i havent had chinese leaf before, what is that ?
i could make you a nice chocloate souffle
sorry cant spell, but you know what i mean

talktothe bees im not on cat, do you have to pay to get cat started?
lol about the cheese strings, don't forget the fruit shoots too lol

how are you finding the weaning is going ?
are you blw?
im just doing finger foods and mashed food! i call it winging it style weaning lol
is this your first ? dd is mine

The answer is no, but purely from a salt/food allergy point of view. If there are food allergies of any sort in your family you should avoid foods that it is common to have food allergies to...prawns are one of those. Also too much salt for under 12 months is an issue and good chorizo generally is salty. Wait until 12 months and then go for it. Also, just because prawns and chorizo are out, doesn't mean you can't give them tasty interesting foods. My ds' first "solid" was garlic soup at 6 months (administered by his italian grandmother!). My children are now 5 and 7 and eat pretty much everything on the planet (dinner last night as requested specially by ds was beets, artichokes, spaghetti with fish eggs, challah garlic bread and salad). As soon as it was safe to move past allergy risks (lots of food allergies in my family), I started feeding my kids what we had had the day before all mushed up. Amazing how good rosemary and garlic can make mush taste.

MeMySonAndI · 03/02/2008 00:46

"but they're together after you've eaten them so..."

Well it depends, I once decided to mix banana puree with some vegetable puree on the same principle, in a few seconds the mixture had a flavour which had some resemblance to the smell you would get from a wheelie bin.

DS was off bananas until recently (almost 5 years from then!)

pankhurst · 03/02/2008 00:48

LOL

eughghg!!!

wheelie bin weaning

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:48

pankhurst thats my kinda thinking it all gos down the sam way doesnt it lol
my mum was horrified that after giving dd her lunch of carrot and brocolli, i used the same bowl for her apple and pear,
said the same to my mum, it all goes down the same way doesnt it! lol

i am definitely coming to your house for tea!

i feel a lot better at the thought of it.

let's have cakes too.

talktothebees · 03/02/2008 00:55

well I think your winging it weaning sounds like BLW. Under 1yo babies should have no more than 1g salt a day - that's the only salt rule. So our DDs can eat some Chorizo or other salty food as long as it's in tiny amounts and infrequently. Have you looked at this.

Weaning is going ok today but i often find myself awake at 5am thinking "what should I feed her today"

You do have to pay for CAT . If inspiration has lost you I can drag my brains for some of DD's favourite meals.

robinredbreast · 03/02/2008 00:56

oh yeah, and plenty of drinks
