High chair recommendations for BLW

Northernmama123 · 20/07/2022 21:28

My LO is 21 weeks and I'm currently researching the best high chairs for BLW as I know it will be messy.

Any recommendations?

Ikea antilop

Ikea antilop

I second this

Miranda2308 · 20/07/2022 21:31

IKEA - but you can often find them in charity shops and clean up well.

Ikea antilop

Third, fourth and fifth this suggestion.

No need to try and reinvent the wheel the ikea highchair does exactly what it says and there is no comparison.

MN is obsessed with the Antilop. I hated it. Too bulky and my baby flopped around in it even when supported.

I got a second hand baby bjorn high chair. All the plus points of the Antilop plus compact and supportive. Folds up in seconds to go pretty much flat against the wall.

I've looked at this IKEA one before. No foot rest or harness though right?

Stokke. Second hand obviously as too expensive. It is impossible to flip it over and they will use until... well forever. I find it very comfortable to sit on

User65412 · 20/07/2022 21:53

Ikea anitilop! My friend massively regrets her fancy one (chicco) and wishes she'd just stuck with the easy anitilop.
Mine has a lap harness. I also bought a foot rest, tray cover and cushion. Loads available online.

The Antilop goes in the dishwasher. With that, some long sleeved bins and an old shower curtain on the floor, you’re all good for BLW.

FusionChefGeoff · 20/07/2022 22:09

IKEA

It may not be suitable for young babies (if you were giving purees at 4 months for example), but I didn't start BLW until 6 months so lack of support was not an issue.

PartyPlan · 20/07/2022 22:16

ikea sell a cushion I see for younger babies to support them too.

IDontDrinkTea · 20/07/2022 22:18

I have a Stokke tripp trapp and love it as basically all the parts can go in the dishwasher.

I didn’t buy an antilop because of the lack of footrest

My baby was sitting unsupported on the floor at 4.5 months and we didn't wean until 6 months. She still seemed to flop around in the antilop. It was just too big, and she wasn't a small baby.

HSKAT · 20/07/2022 22:20

Also ikea, we got the cushion for it.
Can buy foot rests on Amazon for it

Pudsocks · 20/07/2022 22:20

Ikea Antilop 100%. I bought a chicco 3in1 which was very supportive for my baby to sit at the table with us between 4-6 months (before we gave him any food). As soon as we started weaning it was horrendous as I just couldn't get it clean, stupid padded thing with a load of awkward nooks and crannies. After about four weeks of daily scrubbing and cursing the chicco it went in the garage and we bought an antilop.

YorkshireTeaCup · 20/07/2022 22:23

I bought a foot rest (and nice cushion cover) for the ikea antilop from this website - nibbleandrest.co.uk/ Has worked really well for us. I spent aaaages agonising between this and the Tripp Trapp. So glad i didn't waste £300 - i must have been out of my mind with sleep deprivation or something 🤣

NannyR · 20/07/2022 22:23

As a nanny who has had to use lots of different high chairs over the years, I thoroughly recommend the antilop. Ikea sell an inflatable cushion insert and you can buy footrests online to attach to it
The stokke is also good, a lot more expensive but children can use it as a dining chair/homework chair into their teens. It's not as easy to clean as the antilop though.

MrsTimRiggins · 20/07/2022 22:24

I hated the ikea one, but loads of people like it and it’s so cheap, you may as wel give it a go! You can buy footrests for them on various sites (Etsy etc) if that’s a concern.
I have a Joie one, mimzy snacker or some such. It’s good enough, little bit too reclined perhaps and inclined to get a bit manky with food unless you’re careful about cleaning it but it’s nice and comfortable for him, has a massive tray and, most importantly for me, it folds up small and it’s so easy to do so, one handed. It was cheap too, from mamas and papas when they had a sale on.

You can buy a footrest attachment and an insert cushion if needed and people often just give them away. That's what we did with ours once finished and it was still pretty much pristine.

DinosaursEatMan · 20/07/2022 22:30

I did blw with youngest dc, and they spent most mealtimes sat on my knee eating from my plate. We did have a fancy highchair from older dc but it was barely used. Appreciate this isn’t the most practical answer!

addictedtotheflats · 20/07/2022 22:34

We have a ingenuity booster chair which straps to a regular chair. Great for space saving and we also took it to restaurants as the wooden bucked seat ones are a nightmare for 6 month olds. My DS is 3 now and we still use it

ScrummyDiva2 · 20/07/2022 22:37

Stokke tripp trapp- they still use it now as teens as it converts to an adult chair. Well worth the money

Apollonia1 · 20/07/2022 22:39

Stokke Click.
Very easy to clean, no hidden nooks and crannies.
