Dairy free weaning

Just wondering if anyone has any tips, advice or ideas on dairy free weaning.

My DD is nearly 7months old and we're trialing dairy free and she has just been prescribed milk from the GP.

I batch cook some meals and freeze but she has some pouches too but I want to move towards completely homemade meals but need some inspiration. It's surprising how many products milk powder is in!

At the minute anything with lumps in she gaps but will chew on fruit in one of the baby holder things with the net on the end so she doesn't get the lumps

Thanks

Is she having finger foods as well? Just asking as most of my suggestions will probably be finger foods related...Smile

I know you’re not at this stage yet but for when you are: we’ve been DF/SoyaF for 8 months now and we’ve found that if you buy food specifically avoiding ingredients like dairy or soya it’s rank. Like the bread is dry as hell and the chocolate is disgusting. BUT if you just buy food that happens to not have it in it like a sainsburys tiger bloomer it’s beautiful, just like normal bread for example. Or some hotel chocolate doesn’t contain dairy.

We found having staples in the cupboard like Couscous humous and tomato pasta was good. Tuna Mayo sandwiches when out and about meal deal stylie usually don’t have dairy in.

We are offering finger foods but she isn't tolerating them to well and much prefers purées

Oh ok then so how about Blue berry pancakes make with a milk substitute for breakfast? We use Unsweetened Almond Milk and the whole family like them.

There are a couple of recipes on MN that are DF as well.

There's Baby Dahll*, Banana-cado and Apple & Raisin Porridge which you can make with her usual milk or a milk alternative Smile

Placemarking as DD is also dairy free and currently 8MO.

Some of the things I cook are:

Spag Bol
Oven roasted chicken and potato with veg - sub between broccoli, green beans, asparagus
Baked salmon with pasta and green veg as above Baked cod with potato and veg
Roasted tomato and red peppers with chickpeas

In terms of pouches I keep some of the Ella ones in the changing bag and round the house incase I need them. A lot of them are dairy free by nature & quick to spot as all of the allergens are on the back in blue. They have some interesting ones which are dairy free including veggie biriyani, roast dinners, tomato pasta etc etc.

For breakfast I offer porridge/weetabix/shreddies etc with oat milk slightly warmed so it forms a smooth consistency - the smoother you want it the more milk you can add.

Then I might offer a few bits of toast as finger food and then fruit - mango. Oranges, banana etc.

Dairy free yoghurt I use alpro, DD prefers the texture of Greek style and if I want to jazz it up I will mix some fruit purée in with it to make it fruit flavoured yoghurt.

Another thing that DD liked was a roast dinner. You can mash things together and use a low salt stock cube to make some gravy. Finger foods could be florets of broccoli or Yorkshire puddings made with oat milk.
