Do you judge parents who feed their child jars/pouches

Just that really.

And if so, why?

No.

I don’t think anyone will answer yes to this question because it just makes them look like a total prick.

There’s nothing wrong with jars.

whymewhyme · 30/09/2018 22:31

No, why would anybody judge that? I didn't get it lol

Move2WY · 30/09/2018 22:32

Also, if someone does answer yes to this question then they either have no children or have just 1 child where they had the time to cook from scratch.

moomin11 · 30/09/2018 22:33

I don't but was judged for this. Have also seen plenty of threads on here where people are clearly judging.

BlingLoving · 30/09/2018 22:33

Broadly, no. But I would worry about any child who was weaned exclusively on pre-made food. The flavours are quite different to home cooked so I would worry about if the child would adjust when older and eating with the family.

OatsBeansBarley · 30/09/2018 22:34

No.

Ningnang2000 · 30/09/2018 22:34

No. The first few weeks everything was made from scratch even the stock more folk me. Then i realised life is too short. Don't get me wrong I still did a bit of home cooking but was probably 50/50 to the jars and it wasn't long before the baby was eating our food.

madeyemoodysmum · 30/09/2018 22:34

Never

BlingLoving · 30/09/2018 22:35

On a more ad hoc basis, I am more likely to "judge" people who never give a pouch etc. It's so bloody convenient. Dd, 3, still has the odd fruit pouch as a treat/ pudding.

SemperIdem · 30/09/2018 22:37

I tended towards finger food with my daughter, but bloody loved a Ella’s breakfast pouch too.

And my daughter is such a fussy eater.

I’ll merrily jar feed the next one (if there is one) the zero difference “eating what you do” ethos made with no.1.

So no judgment here.

Faster · 30/09/2018 22:39

No. It’s food. They’re usually pretty healthy, not something I’d eat mind you. Plus the prune Ella’s pouches are really handy!

Bumdishcloths · 30/09/2018 22:42

Looking at the bigger picture, no. If they were fed jars/pouches etc exclusively with no fresh food at all? Yes.

Sorry.

Iwantaunicorn · 30/09/2018 22:43

Hell no, they’re bloody brilliant! I mostly feed my DTs home cooked food, but that’s due to cost (I have a fondness for Ella’s kitchen pouches) and the fact they’ll eat 3-4 per day currently which will only increase as they get bigger.

Do you feel judged? Or do you judge? Hmm

LusaCole · 30/09/2018 22:45

Surely most parents use jars/pouches from time to time?

LusaCole · 30/09/2018 22:46

Agree I would judge if a child was fed entirely on jars/pouches.

WitBeyondMeasure · 30/09/2018 22:48

No. I did once when I thought I knew it all. Not for lack of nutrition or anything, I just thought baby led weaning was easier/better. I now roll my eyes at myself.
Three kids down the line, all brought up the same with the same baby led weaning etc and I resorted to fruit pouches for my three year old who point blank refuses to eat any fruit. She will eat those happily and i would much prefer she had fruit that way than none at all!

Do what works.

INeedNewShoes · 30/09/2018 22:51

I'm sure there are people who judge this. I use jars for DD when we're out and about for convenience as I don't have to worry about keeping homemade food cool then heating it up as jars can just stay room temperature. I can tell you that of my antenatal group of 8 babies, DD is the only one who doesn't get home cooked food when we meet up.

Vinorosso74 · 30/09/2018 22:51

I wouldn't no but I got negative comments for BLW and not giving pouches/jars/homemade purees. Myself and DD stayed with my parents for a couple of weeks (they live in a different part of the UK) when she was 8/9 months old and when we were out people just had to comment that the food was too big, the food needed mashing, she needed to be fed, blah blah. This wasn't just older generation but a friend's NCT group.

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 30/09/2018 23:23

I will admit I have judged Blush. People who use them all the time though , not just occasionally.

Just started weaning my first child last week. Tried some BLW but my nerves can't handle it with baby coughing and spluttering and gagging. Spent most of this evening cooking, pureeing. Kitchen was an absolute shit tip by the end of it.

Now starting to rethink my judginess Grin
Like a lot of things baby related. Theres nothing like having your own baby to knock some of the judginess out of you.

However I would be slightly apprehensive whipping out a jar at a baby group for fear of judgement. Much like I am with whipping out a bottle 🙈.

I do wonder how people afford to just use pouches/jars though. Surely must cost an absolute fortune.

I don't judge people who use them but I do think about how much they cost and what is wasted from them. I find making and blending so easy, and it works out so cheap to do, but I know not everyone has the time to do it.

DieAntword · 01/10/2018 08:23

I judge them as having more money than me 😞

Ohdobakeoffdear · 01/10/2018 08:28

No I don’t!
DS loved an Ella’s kitchen pouch and they are so convenient!
He ate home cooked food at home but when we were out and about, I had no reservations whatsoever. There’s enough stuff to carry around and think about when you have a baby, I just didn’t feel I should also worry about keeping home made food the right temperature, then find somewhere to heat it up, too much faff!
I am curious, do you judge or do you feel judged?

CaMePlaitPas · 01/10/2018 08:30

I remember a thread like this quite recently... As long as a child is being fed why judge?!

Strippervicar · 01/10/2018 08:32

I was judged but it was followed by, "well jars are full of sugar and you have set your baby up for type 2 diabetes. But, you have an eating disorder and PND so in your case it was better than nothing. You probably don't understand nutrition." From a professional. Ffs.

It was 70/30 pre made.

Parker231 · 01/10/2018 08:37

No, never. I used them for DT’s all the time . They were quick, easy and they liked them. What isn’t there to like about them. Life is too short to be messing around blending and mashing food for them.
