Weaning

Find weaning advice from other Mumsnetters on our Weaning forum. Use our child development calendar for more information.

It's not rocket science - "it may cause harm to wean early, it does no harm to leave it till 6m" - WHY do people still want to shovel baby rice in at 12 weeks (or earlier)?

I have come up with some ideas as to why people wean early:

they have competitive baby syndrome and are annoyed someone else's baby rolled first, so they want to get theirs onto steak and chips via baby rice and one fruit or veg a week for months

Well, an idea. Any more?

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:27

But ther's a way of imparting advice that seems to jhave eluded you. you come across as bossy, sanctimonious and very much a knowitall.

noddyholder · 09/04/2007 09:27

it certainly is orville

OrvilleRedenbacher · 09/04/2007 09:27

amijee · 09/04/2007 09:28

btw, i think to refer to i as "abuse" and using offensive language such as the "c" word is ridiculous and offensive to the extreme.

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:29

oh dear vvv where are your cohort? Can I hear the patter of other knowitall feet?lol

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:30

brandishing their WHO research when the rest of us mere mortals stick to a quick run through "the gruffalo" at bedtime

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/04/2007 09:31

Yes I probably do come across that way to some people. I dont mean any malice by it, im just a lazy fecker sometimes and cut out the niceties.

The thing is, I keep revisiting this because I care about infant nutrition, and childhood allergies. I have a personal interest in it. You are coming back just to tell me what you think of me. I really dont see how you think I am being worse than any of you lot!

After all Noddy, "get off your high horse" is no different, is it?

WideWebWitch · 09/04/2007 09:31

Well quite Orville.

I do think bringing up stuff from one thread on another isn't on really

Nasty thread imo

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:32

Bedtime must be fun - "oh look darling - can you pass me that latest research paper so I can tell the other mums how it's done?" lol

OrvilleRedenbacher · 09/04/2007 09:32

but I htink( not wantign to cuse a russus) that its ok ofr you to have a peronal interst in it but to go ona dn on abotu it allt he itme is a bit liek being a perpetual jehovas witness!;)

And very clear demonstration of what I mean from zookeeper there

Yes zookeeper, I do read things sort of like that to DD. Well, similar. She has a life threatening peanut allergy, so dull as it is, its something we do have to hammer home at all times. Pretty boring for her, but, you know...we love her.

I think you are malicious, vvv; you loved baiting Cam and must be so happy she's gone.

OrvilleRedenbacher · 09/04/2007 09:35

a bit harsh i think

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:35

wtf???

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:36

So vvv you will understand then that I might have taken offencse when the other member of your posse, Hunkermunker, said "can you have a bay so that I can wean it early and see if it gets a horrible disease?" You were strangely silent on that point.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/04/2007 09:37

Well, indeed hatrick.

I will quite happily discuss the why's and wherefores all day long with likeminded people who are interested.

Unfortunately, folk seem to want to come on here to say that they are not interested in it, and neither should I be.

Cant help it, tbh. A lot of my daily life involves making sure what my DD can have is safe. I think about food A LOT

zookeeper · 09/04/2007 09:37

For like-minded read "people who agree with me".
At least you are honest

noddyholder · 09/04/2007 09:38

VVV I am only telling you to get off your horse not what oats to give it

PinkTulips · 09/04/2007 09:38

i knew i shouldn't have clicked on this thread.... only one way it was ever going to go.

for what it's worth i fed dd far too early in a misguided attempt to ease her reflux at 17/18 weeks which PHN said was fine.

with ds i'd found MN, knew better and was all set to wait til 6 months..... little monster didn't approve of that plan though and stole his own food at just under 5 months

i think for anyone in doubt who thinks their child is ready the best thing to do is simply to sit the child down with some finger food, if the child can and does eat the food they're ready, if they can't they're not..... simple!
