Hi i am sort of doing BLW with dd because she basically refuses anything else !. Today she had roasted root veg at lunchtime and pasta in her hands at tea time but breakfast is a flash point. We allhave cereal and DS has always had weetabix even as a titch. I know toast is the obvious choice but we have quite a lot of bread at other times and really like DS to have cereal for the calcium and iron. I do give fruit as we all have that too. I just wondered what other BLW mums do. This morning she threw abowl of weetabix at the wall ! she will NOT be spoon fed at all .

if you do the same recipe with smoked mackerel, lemon and a blob of not very-baby-friendly horseradish it's yummy. thanks for reminding me of that, catastrophe, i'm going to try that again. and the salmon sounds delicious too.

Munch munch munch. I'm eating one of Franny's muffins (well, they're my muffins, obviously). Hopefully dd will approve when I present her with one tomorrow.

Yes, lovely and coconutty, but not too sweet at all.

Must get round to making your baked beans soon too - I have all the ingredients out on the work surface in anticipation!

Ooh yes please - I love banana cake! Is it also dairy free (I can use Pure instead of butter if not, but haven't baked with it before)? Am taking dessert to NCT meetup on Friday, and am already planning on another batch of muffins, but I could really impress with banana cake too .

Fab and Healthy Banana cake

4 oz self raising wholemeal flour
half tsp mixed spice
2 oz butter
3 oz raisins
8 oz banana
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 180 / gm 4.

Mix flour and spice, rub in butter and stir in raisins. In a separate bowl, mash the banana and egg. Stir into the flour mixture and put into a well-greased tin (fills a small loaf tin I think or I usually double up the quantities and put it in an 8" circular cake tin). Turn oven down to GM 3 / 160 C and cook on the middle shelf for 1 hour or until cooked.

I usually cover it with a mixture of philadelphia cream cheese and fruit spread (about 2 parts cream cheese to one part fruit spread / jam). I blend them together in the liquidiser. However it is good just by itself as well.

Franny, would you agree with the second comment on this or not?

yes to some extent, but the few recipes for older children that I regularly use, are so superb that they have made the book worth double the price, for me

having said that, I have posted most of them on MN
