Madres en España!!!!!! Papilla de arroz sin nada añadido?

malaleche · 12/03/2007 11:23

Anyone in Spain know of a baby rice with nothing else added - just rice? Have checked my local health food shops but they all have sweetners or sesame added...Thanks!

maybe just don't use it then? skip it.

tiktok · 12/03/2007 12:01

Why would you not want to just use ordinary rice? Baby rice is a commercial thing that manufacturers have convinced mothers they need, and they really don't!

malaleche · 12/03/2007 13:37

well, because its very easy to prepare and if you try to sieve or puree normal rice it goes all gooey....

No need for baby rice at all. How old is DD2?

malaleche · 12/03/2007 13:55

she's 6 mo on the 18th. Was just going to do everything the same as i did for dd1 - start on tiny amounts of rice maybe not even every day and then add in apple etc slowly while still continuing to bfeed.

BizzyDint · 12/03/2007 13:56

she's 6 months. she can have normal food.

malaleche · 12/03/2007 14:02

ok bizzy so i'll just put her on egg and chips shall i?

OP posts:
BizzyDint · 12/03/2007 14:04

yes if you like. best to make sure the egg is cooked through though. and i'd do potatos fried in olive oil rather than deep fried in lard or whatever.

malaleche · 12/03/2007 14:05

i was joking

BizzyDint · 12/03/2007 14:08

i wasn't. be all means start with basic fruit and veg etc, but assuming no allergies in the family you can quite quickly get on with proper food. dd was chomping egg and chips (well...spanish omelette/omelette and sauted potatoes) after maybe a week or two of plain stuff.

tiktok · 12/03/2007 14:09

Egg and chips are fine....at 6 mths she will manage to hold a chip (you could dip the chip in the egg yolk if you wanted to) , though she won't manage a whole lot. A couple of chips in front of her will keep her quite happy, and she will play with them and get some of the softer potato from inside the skin and swallow that just fine. The total amount she will get down will be very small - and that's ok.

Tiny amounts of baby rice with other foods added gradually and tentatively sounds like a bit of a hassle, but it's up to you!

malaleche · 12/03/2007 14:10

Took weaning very slowly with dd1 because of allergies (dp and i both have hayfever and i have some food allergies) - seems i was right to do that as when i introduced milk products at 10 m she immediately developd excema. Thanks for all your comments but is there anyone out there that can answer my original question? (sorry, am feeling abit huffy now - i do know how to wean my baby thanks and appreciate that not everyone might do it my way! )

malaleche - just seen your statement you were joking....why would it be odd to give a 6 mth old egg and chips?

tiktok · 12/03/2007 14:11

Sorry, ignore me, I was x posting with you, unknowingly! Course you can wean how you want

Don't want to put you in a huff!!

lulumama · 12/03/2007 14:12

Have a look at {link{http://www.babyledweaning.com\baby led weaning blog} for a guide on giving babies real food, not puree
or go the puree route without baby rice

tiktok · 12/03/2007 14:12

BTW, you don't need to seive or puree normal rice

lulumama · 12/03/2007 14:13

baby led weaning blog ooops !

malaleche · 12/03/2007 14:16

Having said that dd2 will probably end up on 'normal food' quicker than dd1 did since she is not a PFB DD1 eats really well, very healthily, prefers what were having - never eats kiddy meal options... just thought id do the same with dd2 as i did with her...its not a hassle defrosting a cube of frozen apple or whatever and stirring some baby rice into it...

lulumama · 12/03/2007 14:21

no worries it is just another way of introducing food ! do what feels right for you and your family !

terramum · 12/03/2007 14:45

malaleche - we did blw with DS from 29 weeks but in a more restricted way because of allergy issues (he already has mild eczema and there is asthma, eczema and hayfever in both families). We introduced 1 new food per week following this to some extent. Was glad we did take it slowly because he had a reaction to oats at 9 months which was easy to spot. I suppose some might argue that we werent doing full blw as ds wasnt allowed to help himself to everything we ate: we didnt allow him to have dairy, gluten or other allergen type foods unitl he was past 1 year....but we never fed him anything - he self fed from the word go. It took a little bit of imagination & searching for things like rice pasta & things to have for breakfast that werent wheat based so he could have something that looked like mum & dads food (what they dont know doesnt hurt them )....but wanted you to know that blw & allergy issues arent necessarily incompatable.

malaleche · 12/03/2007 20:21

thanks teramum - thats a very useful list.
