Maybe it's a daft question BUT would you? He really enjoyed it (mainly sucked at it, but devoured half of his sister's crumpet), but they seem be a little high in salt.

I probably would - its not like he's eating a packet of them is he?!

Yes. Not all the time, but now and again.

Biglips · 22/02/2007 15:38

yum yum!!!!

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 15:42

Absolutely, as long as you dont do it for every meal!!!
My LO is 7 months, currently into philly on toast!

fizzbuzz · 22/02/2007 15:54

Yep, dd age 7 months has just sucked at a crumpet. Do they have more salt in than bread?

mummynumnum · 22/02/2007 21:53

Yep, now and again. DD loves them. Sucks them to death.

NadineBaggott · 22/02/2007 22:09

7 months? No I wouldn't!

TrinityRhino · 22/02/2007 22:10

why??? nadine

gothicmama · 22/02/2007 22:11

Under 1 year a baby can have up to 1g of salt per day. The crumpets I buy contain 0.75g of salt each. Don't know how much salt is in cheese (about 2% salt isn't it?), because dd is milk intolerant, so it's not on our menu, but in principle yes, I would give it.

Babies do actually need some salt in their diet, just not too much.

ds (PFB) - no
dd (ignored second baby) of course...

nicoloola · 22/02/2007 22:48

My seven month wouldn't bloody eat it - in fact she eats virtually nothing and I'm really worried about it! What the hell are you supposed to give them at 7 months when all she seems to like is breastmilk (sorry - didn't mean to hijack your thread!!! - if only my dd would eat things like that).

Yes, ever now and again. Not every meal every day.

claireybee · 23/02/2007 11:48

Yes definitely! My DD (9months today!) had chicken fajitas the other day (although i did rinse off the seasoning from her meat first)-the more foods they are exposed to at this age the better!

claireybee · 23/02/2007 11:52

Oh and Nicoloola, don't worry. My DD has only just started showing an interest in food. Wouldn't accept any purees AT ALL so I started giving her finger foods which mostly ended up on floor. It has taken a good 3 months for her to actually eat anything rather than just playing with it and even now her appetite is very small. Some days she'll eat a fair amount and others hardly anything but its perfectly normal. Look on Baby led weaning website if really worried-they make some good points that certainly helped me stop stressing about it!

Enid · 23/02/2007 11:57

yes definitely

but I wouldnt buy crumpets specially

dd3 loves cheese on toast (8 months)

Enid · 23/02/2007 11:57

oh crap actually she is nearly 10 months

Hattiecat · 23/02/2007 12:19

i would, but as an easier one to eat, have you tried pikelets - they are virtually the same (while i think they are) but alot thinner so they don't have to chew quite so much...

terramum · 23/02/2007 12:36

I wouldnt - but then we avoided all wheat & dairy until over one year

TBH though even if that wasnt the case the salt content would put me off....babies simply dont need any added salt. The 1g/day is the absolute max they should have & they get all they need from milk....when you realise that adults only need about 1.5g to survive & the 6g adult rda is only really used to try & get people to reduce their intake from an average 10g per day ...giving a 7 month baby anything with added salt doesnt seem a very good idea....but maybe thats just me being paranoid & anal

Notquitegrownup · 23/02/2007 12:44

Just echoing the other comments for Nicoloola. My dss weren't interested in solids until 10 months, then started gumming bread/ricecakes etc.
