What can you just defrost- rather than have to heat it up properly?

Are there any meals/recipes you can just defrost?
I'm assuming anything meat based is out, but my daughter loves frozen carrots when teething and I put fruit purées in the fridge to defrost over night to have with breakfast. But nothing for lunch/ dinner times, would be so easy to take something from the freezer knowing it would be ready to eat by lunch.

Think you possibly could. What kind of things are you both having for lunch now? Suppose things like savoury muffins would just defrost.

How about something like this? You could even offer it with baby breadsticks, cheesestraws or just toast and butter Smile

Just making sandwiches at the moment, bananas, Ella's pouches in an emergency.
She loves peas so will try that thanks.

The cheese and spinach muffins from blw cookbook.
Freeze great, no need to heat up.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 30/04/2014 20:43

What sort of things do you like to eat for lunch? How about making some soup and freezing in batches for both of you?

Chickenschicken · 01/05/2014 13:35

I do have lentil soup in the freezer- would automatically heat it though! But then by the time she eats it it's cold again anyway.
Muffins sound great, I'm not the best cook but I do try.

There's a fpgoid savoury muffin recipe here.

Is there an issue with heating things up? Are you after things to take out with you like these?

Chickenschicken · 02/05/2014 19:54

It's fine if I've got plenty of time to make stuff or defrost stuff, but would love to be able to grab a muffin and know it'll be edible by lunchtime without any more faff.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/05/2014 21:28

I'm confused, have you name changed?

Chickenschicken · 05/05/2014 09:01

Woops Blush yes sorry it's me.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/05/2014 09:03

Ok, just got me a bit confused Smile

What do you have for lunch?

Chickenschicken · 05/05/2014 09:24

Easy things like eggs and toast, soup.
My mind has gone blank I think I need a food diary!
Pasta and pesto, not freezable but quick actually.
Going to try the muffins today or tomorrow.

I can't see any problem with anything veggie just being thawed and eaten cold or just warmed in the MW. Never bothered my two.

(I confess I didn't always bother heating to piping hot and cooling meat based stuff either, but I'm a bad mummy)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/05/2014 09:49

Have you tried her with the things you eat? Might make things a little easier for you Smile

How about trying her with something like a sardine sandwich, pancetta pasta, www.mumsnet.com/food/recipe/336-Easy-omelette or this pasta sauce can be frozen.

At that age my dd also loved some bit of whatever we had in, some cut grapes, some cooked meat or cheese, a bit of cucumber and tomato, some bread and butter or mini breadsticks or cheese straws. Literally whatever was to hand.

See if you library has got a copy of this cookbook as you'll be able to share the food and that should make things easier for you. When I was stuck for inspiration with my dd I borrowed this book from our library and it was useful.

Hope you find something that is useful to you too Smile

Tried the muffins.... They did not come out well! Very stodgy. Made carrot and apple ones as well though and they went down a treat.
Yes today she had a banana, yogurt and cucumber, few crackers so literally anything fast and edible.
I think I'm stuck in a food rut which isn't helping!
Thanks got those links. I'm not in the uk but I'll see if I can get the baby led weaning book here.

There's quite a few recipes on the blw websiteSmile
