What has your 6mo had today?

On the back of my thread of general cluelessness at 2nd time weaning it would really help to know what other people's babies are having at the same stage.

Yesterday mine chomped on a bit of my toast in the morning and had a few spoonfuls of veggie purée which he catapulted at his head at tea time.

Mine has weirdly started to push his tongue forwards when the spoon comes to his mouth after previously been very willing to eat from the spoon - any thoughts?

Also I bought a few Ella's pouches for out and about and some say from 7mo - are they ok to try with him at just 6months? It's confusing when packaging says this yet blw says anything goes!

I tried him with yoghurt this morning but most of it was pushed out and some of it was inhaled up his nose which gave him a bit of a shock!

Try him with them. The worst that will happen is its a bit lumpy but I can't see that being an issue if he's had finger foods?

I was brave today. DS had a stick of cheese and cucumber. No choking at all and he was very impressed by cheese Grin

Totally foxed - my guess would be that the tongue movement is part of him learning about moving food around the mouth and that when he sees the spoon he is anticipating what's going to be on it and howbhe is going to tackle it. Just a guess mind. I reckon keep going if they were taking it happily previously or maybe time for some finger foods?

Gave my lo some of those organics carrot puff things - essential whotsits without the salt and she went crazy! cried when I stopped giving them to her. I know there not the best but she gets her mits on loads of fresh stuff too Blush cheese on toast for tea - big hit. Anyone know anything about what bread is best for babies? we have multigrain but a friend was saying that they need white bread as the high fiber stops them absorbing stuff??

My just seven month old DD has had an apple and strawberry fruit puree pouch, mini babybel, some raisins, wee bit of bread and homemade soup at lunch, and some cucumber sticks. Plus a taste of some red cabbage from my salad - she wasn't impressed! She's had a bit less than normal today though due to being a bit under the weather.

Ready It's true that young children shouldn't have too much wholemeal/high fibre foods. They fill them up so much that they don't eat enough to obtain the calories they need. I believe bran also prevents the absorption of some minerals.

But my HV told me not to worry about buying special bread for DS if the rest of the family are eating wholemeal. A lot would end up being wasted, especially early on when they eat so little. She just advised me to avoid giving wholemeal everything so we give him white rice and pasta to balance it out.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks Yarg!

My little one seems to have got the hang of the spoon! She let me help her with some yogurt this morning and tonight I was making us lasagne for later so did her a bit of spaghetti and some bolognas sauce and some cheese sauce. Mixed it up and gave her some to play with - she was minging anyway! But she wasn't getting any where with it so cut some up very small and she let me help her, opened her mouth and every thing! Everyone likes lasagne though!

DD is 6.5 months,, been on solids 2.5 weeks, and is on 3 'meals' a day. Today she had an ellas banana yoghurt for breakfast, sweet potato puree mixed with baby rice & formula for lunch, and pureed broccoli & baby rice for dinner which she hated (first time trying it), so I gave her an ellas peach puree mixed with baby rice instead. Too much sugar and prepackaged stuff for dinner but she was a bit upset after gagging on the broccoli and I just wanted to get some food in her quickly before bathtime.

I worry a lot about what to feed her. She has mostly veg or fruit purees mixed with baby rice and formula. However ive read that baby rice is poor nutritionally; today I went to buy baby porridge but was horrified that it was 38% sugar so didnt buy it. She's not keen on the purees 'neat' but I guess will get more used to them as time goew on.

I don't really know how or when to introduce meat and fish, or how successfully they will puree? Also when you give toast, do you butter it (salt content? ), or give it dry?

Its less simple than I expected!

42andcounting You can buy unsalted butter to put on toast etc and can just make regular porridge using non-jumbo oats eg www.annabelkarmel.com/recipes/porridge-apple-pear-and-apricot

Today DD had some fingers of toast for breakfast, bread and butter and a couple of chips for lunch (we were at the zoo) and some pried chicken casserole that I had made for tea.
