high chair help!

Hi there - my DS is 5 months so I'm starting to think about weaning - well getting the kit together anyway. I have been looking at high chairs and I can't believe how big they are! How DO people cope?! I don;t think my house is small but having drawn up a table of all the options I'm finding it hard to find one small enough. I've ruled out the plastic fold up ones as they are enormous when unfolded and I have no cupboard or spare bit of wall to prop it on folded up anyway. My hoover lives behind the door in my dining room! I'm hoping to get one that pushes underneath the table to save a bit of room. So far the smallest one I can see is the Cosatti Pretzel

Pretzel

or the cosatti 360

360

any suggestions or feedback on the above? i feel like i may be missing something here like the time someone suggested storing my ironing board under the bed! thanks!

The Ikea Antilop it's fractionally larger than your first one, but that's because the legs splay out a bit more, it really is pretty small and your hoover may well sit underneath it - our dyson would. It's also only 16 quid so you can try it pretty risk free.

I'm not sure any really push under a table - since they're designed to be pretty much the same height as a dining room table so the baby is at the table with you.

I have the Baby Bjorn one - it's very compact and I absolutely love it! Our DD is very comfortable as the chair is built to keep her upright and best of all - no straps to get food-encrusted and manky. It is expensive, but I managed to get mine half price on Amazon so worth a look.

lozster · 29/12/2013 18:38

Thanks for the input! Afraid the Antilop ikea one has already been ruled out as I looked at it in store and In use in the restaurant and decided the legs are a trip hazard. I do love the idea of storing stuff underneath it though - I knew I'd get some great tips on here! Puss cats basket could go there AND she could thoroughly clean any spills ;-)

The baby bjorn one, like many others, doesn't have dimensions on for in use only for 'transport mode' which I assume means folded. I am amazed that they don't give the in use measurements. I viewed a lot of houses before I bought mine do I know my rooms aren't abnormally small and I don't have lots of furniture so I guess other people must just have a nook or cranny somewhere for them to fit.

lozster I've never seen anyone trip on an antilop - if you think it is though, then it will rule out the bjorn and many others too as they all have similar legs.

BonaDea · 29/12/2013 19:01

Op - I'm a bit confused as to why the antilop legs would be a trip hazard versus any other type of highchair. They all have a very similar footprint.

Can confirm that I've never seen anyone trip over them - mine, my friends or in restos!

lotsofcheese · 29/12/2013 19:06

I wish I'd got a Stokke Tripp - they are expensive but can be bought 2nd hand on Gumtree etc. Instead I have a Mamas & Papas Loop.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 29/12/2013 19:10

What about the ones that clamp to the table? I've used them in restaurants before and always been impressed. That, or my Tripp Trapp is pretty fantastic, though it was gifted to us and when I googled it my face was like this Shock. I only gave a bottle of wine to say thanks!

feesh · 29/12/2013 19:12

Antilop is definitely not a trip hazard. My husband has big waddling feet and he's always walking into things and stubbing his toes, but not the Antilops.

We also have TrippTrapps and he is forever stubbing his Bloody Toe on those things, they have stealth sticky out bits.

Bigfatgypsyweddingwatcher · 29/12/2013 19:12

What about a booster seat? We've got this one from boots, £8.99 suitable from 6 months, portable. We love it. Newspaper under the chair if you're worried, wipes easily and no nooks/crannies for food to hide.

SpiderStacy · 29/12/2013 19:12

Tripp Trapp is good. It doesn't have a tray and slides under the table like a normal chair. It looks nice. DC still uses it at 8.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 29/12/2013 19:13

This one is really solid and folds flat,

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 29/12/2013 19:13

No idea how to link

I have a tiny flat and my high chair lives behind the living room door, which is pegged open. I have one that folds up really small and cannot recommend it enough - it's the Mamas and Papas Pixi, www.mamasandpapas.com/product-pixi-highchair-apple-/400621102/type-i/.

It goes really flat, and it's so easy to fold, just push a button to remove the tray and pull a handle at the back to fold. You can also take the tray off while leaving the metal safety bar, so should be able to push it quite far under the table if need be. Also, I had a vomiter, and this is really easy to clean :)

ContinentalKat · 29/12/2013 19:17

I have to disagree re. the antilop, everybody kept tripping over the legs constantly, as the are angled!

In the end we had two cheap Tripp Trapp copies, one sold on for very near the original price, on still in use 7 years later.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 29/12/2013 19:18

If you prefer to Google it's the Stokke Handysitt. £55 ish

iwasyoungonce · 29/12/2013 19:20

The Ikea Antilop is HIGHLY recommended by me. My DS still sits in it, and he's 4 now! We are a very clumsy household and we have never tripped over it!

It's cheap, so easy to keep clean and hygienic, and as I said, it can be used for years.

I weep to think we spent £75 on our first highchair (for DD). It had 5 height settings (only ever used one) and I spent years trying to gouge crud out of the folds.

There is just no comparison.

CluelessNewbie1 · 29/12/2013 19:21

We have an antilop which I think is great value but I am always tripping over the bloody thing... Could be because I have a tiny kitchen!

Artandco · 29/12/2013 19:26

Get one of these booster seats from mama and papas

www.mamasandpapas.com/product-baby-bud-teal/412426100/type-i/

They adapt according to age and fit to normal chair

HaveToWearHeels · 29/12/2013 19:43

Atilop definitely, just from the cleaning point of view, it also tucked under our kitchen table when not in use. I spent over £300 on a bloom fresco, biggest waste of money ever, but it did look nice !

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 29/12/2013 19:51

We had a Tripp trapp, which was fab but currently in the garage as we moved house. I'm planning on bringing it out for ds who is 2.4 as he is ready for a 'big boy chair'.

Antilop is our everyday chair - given to us - and it is fantastic.

Before we moved we lived in an extremely small flat with no storage at all and we had this Phil and teds travel chair which was superb. We used to bung it in the car to take to restaurants and friends houses too. Worth every penny.

bellablot · 29/12/2013 19:57

Babybjorn is small and compact, best one I've used and I've used a few!

Ratfinkle · 29/12/2013 20:01

We have this babydan chair and it is great. Fits under table nicely, and cheaper than stokke version.

OneMincePie2Many · 29/12/2013 20:02

Tripp Traps for us too, we have two and are still using them at age 11. Also good as extra chairs for adults (for Christmas etc.). We had the baby attachments, very useful and sold them on when kiddies out grew them - good re-sale value too.

RightInTheKisser · 29/12/2013 20:02

Trip over the bloody Antilop all the time here! Love it though. We have 3 spread across family and you can't beat them. The legs take about 30 seconds to take off so really it is only the size of a small seat to store. We take ours to other family in the car and it takes up no space.

SoonToBeSix · 29/12/2013 20:03

Get an ilea antilop it's not a trip hazard why would you think that Grin
