How many 'cubes' do you give your lo's?

DS is 27 weeks and has been weaning for 3 weeks. He has breakfast (usually a mashed up banana) and lunch of thickly pureed veg. At the mo I'm giving him 2 'cubes' of puree for lunch but I'm wondering if I should give him more? ( I think he'd take it if I offered it) He's still taking 8 oz bottle of formula at lunch too. Is it true that babies now only need 20oz of formula a day - as he's taking more like 4 x 7 or 8 oz and a 4oz dream feed. Should I give more food and less milk now?

Give him as much food as he'll happily take, don't actively cut down the milk though, it is ok for him to have both! (just my opinion, no expert)

Holymoly321 · 19/03/2006 18:57

Well thing is he's quite a big baby - 20lbs now! I'm just not sure how much is enough or too much. Just looked at another thread here and a 7.5 month old was eating 5 cubes for lunch! And the baby was only 18lbs in weight! Am I depriving my DS?

Hew will lose any excess weight when he starts to tear around the place! They usually do anyway...

Holymoly321 · 19/03/2006 19:02

I'd stopped a lunch-time feed (milk) at that age. I think they (codletts) had breakfast (milk), mid-morning (milk) was going if not gone, then afternoon (milk) and bed (milk)

oh god cubes are a pita = oh god, cubes are a pain in the ass

bung it on an old flora tub or somthign = throw it in an old flora tub or something

(what's not to get?) Grin

Holymoly321 · 19/03/2006 19:06

ah twiglett, I see what you mean - just fill up a platic pot with puree and put in the freezer rather than filling up ice cube trays! Good idea - can't believe it hadn't occured to me! Blush. Must be my baby brain! I just need to go and buy some pots now!

I quite enjoy not having to have an original thought .. think I'll follow you around for a bit being your decipher for newbies .. snurk

Holymoly321 · 19/03/2006 19:11

lol!!! Grin thanks twiglett and cod!! At the mo I'm giving him

7.30 am -banana first thing, followed by his 8oz milk bottle of around 8oz
11am - veg puree (the 2 cubes I mentioned) followed by 8 oz milk
3pm - 8oz milk
6pm - 8oz milk
11pm - 4 oz milk.
He always gulps down the milk at the 11am feed - so maybe if I gave him more food he'd take less milk? Cos I think he's having too much milk now!

OP posts:
cod · 19/03/2006 19:12

*far too much milk

id give him a bottle when he wakes
then breakfast then lunch with a sippy cup
then a sleep
then a botttle then tea thena bottle bed

Twiglett · 19/03/2006 19:13

why don't you introduce dinner and just feed him till he's full

(I'd also give him finger food too just to see how he does Smile .. carrot sticks etc)

cod · 19/03/2006 19:15

yes my ds1 was on mushed up sheperd pie at about 10 months and veg soup with mash

Holymoly321 · 19/03/2006 19:15

If I'm giving him a bottle at 7.30, when should I give him breakfast then? He usually has a nap at around 9am. ANd when you say a sippy cup and breakfast and lunch, do you mean with water only? He has his long nap at around 12.
