Hi guys. I am so pleased everything has sorted itself out with dd Ironmaiden. Grin
Jodie - how about giving the 2:30 bottle in a beaker cos that cuts down the amount they drink.
And hopefully he might take less at that time and more at tea time.
Peanutbutter - yes i still use formula in dd's breakfast i don't know if anybody else does though.

jodie1984 · 17/03/2006 16:47

thank you charlie, i will try that tomorrow. i gave ds his bath first lastnight and offered his bottle in his room with the lights low and he drank 6oz Shock. i even had to wake him up for his breakfast this morning because he just rolled over and ignored me when i went in. bless his.

peanutbutter, ds will eat a whole wheatabix with whole (blue) milk.

REally sorry to barge in on this thread but I feel that I am having a lot of the same problems. We were having real struggles over the bedtime bottle so we in the end dropped the 2.30 one and then moved tea to 4.30pm and this seems to work mostly. Sometimes he just doesn't want it and we don't fight it. But he is REALLY fussy about his food (he is 9 months BTW). The most common problem is that he really dislikes any form of meat or fish unless I disguise it so heavily that there is hardly any there. and I am so worried about him not getting enough protein. any advice?

Ironmaiden · 20/03/2006 18:42

Hi Alexh, I wouldn't be too concerned about protein all the time he's drinking milk but if you're worried theres a few things you can try.

Firstly, you could try making up a batch of chicken or beef and potato puree and freezing it in ice cube trays and just add one to his favorite meal for a few days so he can hardly taste it, the after a few days put in 2 cubes, and gradually increase the ammount he's getting so it's introduced slowly and he'll barely notice.

If that's not an option cheese sauce is a good one, I made a batch of veg puree in cheese sauce and gave a few cubes of that per meal with a chicken and potato puree. I've a cheese sauce recipie if you want it.

You can get low sodium baked beans, these mashed up with mashed potato go down well, I've found.

Cheesey toast fingers if he's feeding himself.

If none of that appeals you could get a bag of pulses and pearl barley and try him on veg stew with pulses. Lots of protein in them.

alexh · 21/03/2006 13:16

THanks Ironmaiden. He's down to only two bottles a day (not that hungry a baby despite being 75th percentile) so am keen to get protein into food. HE loves pasta and cheese sauce and will eat that with virtually anything so maybe will try adding some to that and see what happens.....

forevermore · 21/03/2006 13:43

iron maiden do you have that recipie for cheese sauce; i want to make it with formula milk. also where can i get baked beans 'safe' enough for an 8 month old (low salt)

cheers
trying to get dd to eat and find that unless its cheesy or tomato flaovur she doesn't want to know, and milk intake is low (despite also being on 75th centile...by some miracle cos she hardly eats anything)

Ironmaiden · 30/03/2006 20:46

Alexh - I forgot about chick peas. Houmous is made from them, nice and creamy mixed in to a baby dinner!

I'll dig out the chesse sauce recipie, sorry, haven't forgotten...

charliegirl25 · 03/04/2006 13:05

How are you Ironmaiden, hows dd? Havent been around for ages as I have been working far too much and am too knackered in the evening to type.
I hope everything has sorted out with the lunchtime bottle Jodie.

OP posts:
charliegirl25 · 03/04/2006 13:12

just read your thread about stressing about salt levels. Do you give dd gravy? Has it got a high salt content?

OP posts:
jodie1984 · 03/04/2006 14:17

hi hope your ok,
I started to give ds lunch time bottle in a beaker and he was taking about 4oz but for the past 10days or so he hasnt wanted a drop of milk! but will happily drink a beaker full of juice, so he now has that and a yoghurt or some cheese. tea is still at 5.30 then bath at 7.30pm with his bottle after.AND lastnight he drank 9oz at bed time, did a huge belch and fell asleep with in minutes.

so success all round with me i hope ur dd has settled down a bit

Ironmaiden · 04/04/2006 22:34

Hi all. My dd has had another ear infection and a cold, she's been up for 5 nights in a row crying and needing cuddles but tonight she's stayed asleep so far... touch wood she's thru the worst! One cold or infection after another at the mo, roll on summertime!

Good news about your ds jodie.

I'm off to bed while the going's good!

charliegirl25 · 23/04/2006 22:34

Hi Guys, Ironmaiden, just read your thread about evening recipes for dd. I give my dd scrambled egg, homemade soups, cheese on toast, maybe jam on toast, and a couple of the more simple recipes from GF weaning guide like the corn chowder or lentil recipes.
How is your dd now? My dd has started walking, oh my god, she is everywhere! haha! She has got her top two teeth coming through and keeps biting her top gums with the bottom teeth and making a right mess of them. Poor girl must hurt terribly.

Ironmaiden · 25/04/2006 19:27

Hiya Charlie, great to hear from you as I've got lots of questions!!

Firstly, naptimes. Have you dropped the morning nap yet, if so did you need to tweek the routine? I tried dropping it for one day but poor baby was so tired she couldn't eat her dinner, but, then only slept for 50 minutes and was wrecked by 6pm! I'm confused about what to do for the best. DD doesn't want to sleep in the mornings now but seems to need to!!

Secondly, thanks for the evening meal advice. DD eats amazingly well now but I don't know what is enough or not enough.
For both meals I give her either 7 cubes of homemade food or a 7mnth HIPP jar followed by a petit filous or a pot of Organix rice pudding & fruit. Does this sound like enough / too much..?
I'm just concerned that if I give her just toast one day she'll be too hungry. She's been waking up at night hungry as it is so I've started giving her a milky weetabix instead of a bedtime bottle. Not sure if this is a good idea but last night it seemed to work...

Congrats on the upright baby! Laura is waking asisted but not taken off on her own yet. She only crawled for the first time on saturday! Though she'd skip that altogether at this stage.
Can you believe they are nearly a year old!!!

Sorry this is long, we're going thru a lot of nagging changes at the moment!!! Smile

charliegirl25 · 25/04/2006 20:56

Hi Hun, I wish it wouldn't go so fast, they will be starting school before we know it.
I have had the same problems with Olivia with her morning nap. I did exactly the same as you and thought I would try and skip it but by about 11 she was a right misery so I think she does still need it so i still put her up for a small nap at about 9:30 and then she has about an hour and a half from 1 -2:30 but that is on a good day. I have got a bit lapse with Gina's routine especially through the easter hols when I had my son home so we were out a lot going to different places which meant she just had to sleep if and when.
I dont know what to advise on the meals as i think every child is different and one might eat loads and another might not each much at all. Olivia eats loads and I get concerned I am feeding her too much.
This is Olivia's meal time routine:
7am: 7oz bottle of milk and half a weetabix or ready brek with fresh fruit
10:30am: piece of fruit or rice cakes or maybe 3 farleys mini cheddars
12 midday : baby bowl full of homecooked meal with meat and veg
4:30/5pm : babybowl ful of soup and toast and maybe a yoghurt.
7pm: 8oz bottle of milk

But i think this is quite a lot, or it is in comparison to the other baby at the childminders.
Hope Laura is okay and her ear infection has cleared up. What are you thinking of getting her for bday?

OP posts:
Ironmaiden · 26/04/2006 22:33

Thanks for that, I think they eat about the same and she's not getting fat or anything so I'll just carry on as I am! Just nice to hear whats going on with a child the same age so I know I'm not doing it ALL wrong!
Gave Laura fish for the first time this evening, just one flake of salmon from my plate. Well... she threw up EVERYWHERE! She hated it!!! I had to give her dinner all over again once she'd calmed down as she lost it all!! Won't be doing that again.

We bought her a swing for her birthday, it's up in the garden already as dh is just a big kid himself and couldn't wait!

Her ear infection has been clear for nearly a month now, thank god! More teeth are on their way tho, she was very grumpy the last few days and today I saw white in her gums. That'll be 8 teeth. She'll need dental floss soon.

Ironmaiden · 26/04/2006 22:35

BTW - didn't know you had a son too! How old is he?

Ironmaiden · 26/04/2006 22:42

Also, just browsing other treads... have I missed something with the Gina Ford haters? Has someone been sued? I don't keep up but I'd be very interested to know the details. I hope Gina is fighting back, I'm sick of reading derogitory stuff about her methods.

charliegirl25 · 29/04/2006 22:36

Hi hun, yes i have a son he is 9. (luke)
I think Gina read some of the posts from people with their own opinions of her routines and didn't like it and made a complaint of some sort involving her lawyers. Am not really sure what happened as i missed it all too. Shame. Would love a link to it.

Olivia got her third tooth a couple of days ago, she started really late.
I picked up an ELC catalogue today and have picked out loads of things for Olivia for her bday. But my god it is expensive in there. Still not sure what to buy, would quite like to get a sand/water table. Would love a swing but our gardens too small and we live a couple of doors down from the park. Took her and Luke swimming today and popped my head round the corner of the changing rooms to check on Luke and she went hysterical cos she thought I was leaving her. She hasn't done that before. I felt really sorry for her.

oooh, and another thing, have you bought a buggy yet. I am so sick of my pram, its too big now. Was wondering if you had any good ideas.

OP posts:
Ironmaiden · 03/05/2006 22:04

I do have a stroller but wouldn't recommend it, it's flimsy and a horrible colour (present from my MIL...!) and I barely use it.
Am dying for one of those slinky black Mamas and Papas ones but sadly I don't have several hundred euros to burn!

charliegirl25 · 10/05/2006 21:16

hi ironmaiden, thought i'd let you know cos we were chatting bout it a couple of weeks ago, we have managed to drop the morning nap now. Have you? I sometimes have to bring lunchtime to about 11:30/12pm so she can go down for her nap as sheis knackered by about this time. Hows you and your dd?

OP posts:
Ironmaiden · 15/05/2006 21:43

We r all over the place!!! DD is off her bottles completely now, will drink only 2-3oz of each, the rest I try to use in her food but she is waking up in the night 3 or more times. Could be teething but I've given Neurofen at bedtime and she's still waking up! At 4am like clockwork she wakes each night and drinks a 6oz bottle then straight back to sleep. I don't know what to do, I'm so worried, she doesn't seem to like formula anymore as she will drink cows milk from a glass but not formula from a glass! When can I quit the formula, do you know?

So no, our morning nap is currently about 2 hours long as both me and dd are knackered from being up half the night! She then naps for an hour at lunch time.
Its all gone pear shaped...

charliegirl25 · 17/05/2006 11:18

Oh god thats awful poor you. We are going to centreparcs this weekend and I intend to drop formula and start on cows milk before we go. I hope everything gets better, you must be knackered!

OP posts:
Ironmaiden · 21/05/2006 21:55

Hiya. Today is DD's first birthday! We had a party(ish) whichj was... well, loud... Lots of kids and running around and broken things. Fun tho!
Unfortunately things are no better with our nights, took dd to docs and she's just teething; she's got 9 teeth now and another 2 molars just coming in! They r coming thick and fast and not giving her time enough to recover b4 the next one starts! She's also smothering with a cold so is sleeping in my bed while poor dh sleeps in the spare room!

Last time this happened it got better quite quick so I'm not too concerned about the night time situation.

Any plans for Olivia's birthday on thursday?

Ironmaiden · 21/05/2006 21:56

BTW, I stopped cows milk last week, she's grand, I'm relieved!
