Hands Up Who Weaned before 6 months

How many people wean before the 6 months deadline. I've just started my DS on solids after four weeks of horrendous feeding frenzies day and night. I deliberated over the decision for a long time and think I made the right decision though I know there are billions of arguments against it. I wonder how many mums out there have done the same and feel they got it right.

can i just say what a surprise it is that this thread is getting a bit heated [griun]

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:00

Exactly, queen. It's our generation's love of our cars, microwave meals and alcohol that is causing obesity, not 'early' weaning.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:00

I give up. The information is there, make your own choice.

SackAche · 17/12/2005 23:01

I weaned both at 4months. Tried to wean ds earlier coz his appetite was insatiatable!

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:01

Hercules - then you must meet my GP. Fantastic woman, and strangely enough, far better informed about breastfeeding than I found some of the HV's and midwives to be.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:01

I thought you said we were all fine

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:02

My hv had never heard of waiting until 6 months.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:03

not being rude by short posts btw though seems that way. balancing a 2 yr old on shoulder

Queenmab · 17/12/2005 23:04

Precisely. If your energy intake comes to more than you burn off you will get fat. I refuse to believe that being fed a little bit of pear and rice when 4 months old overides this basic fact. Sorry!

SackAche · 17/12/2005 23:04

Hercules - shouldn't a 2 yr old be in bed by now....

runs

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:04

It would be interesting to see, wouldn't it, if all the obese adults (who were weanedbefore 6 months) gave up their cars and crap food, and then sat back and waited to see if all their weight dropped off. Somehow, I don't think early weaning causes the problems!

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:04

btw i was weaned early and know my overweightness is purely done to my love of food and lack of exercise

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:05

it's not just obeseness though.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:05

and no i'm not getting rid of my car!

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:06

Interesting enough, the rise in IBS is linked to our increased use of processed food and the microwave.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:08

dont like microwaves.

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:08

irrelevent comment there, sorry

Queenmab · 17/12/2005 23:09

I was weaned at 3 months and know that my underweight-ness is linked to walking the dog three miles a day across fields with a 22lb baby strapped to my chest! Apparently at least a third of bowel and stomach cancers are also diet related. As in, processed food and too much salt, fat and alcohol...

Nightynight · 17/12/2005 23:15

good god - is that really why we are supposed to wait until 6 months? because our children will be obese otherwise?

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:16

there are lots of reasons why.

Nightynight · 17/12/2005 23:17

WHO pah - that is just a victory for the processed food department of multinationals, over the baby formula department.

oh yes, lets blame obesity on mothers weaning too early

not all the processed crap we're selling them

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:18

It would appear that the dangers of processed foods, not enough exercise, too much alcohol, pollution and modern living in general are completely overshadowed by the very real dangers of weaning at 4ish months as opposed to 8 weeks later

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:19

oh stop it!

paolosgirl · 17/12/2005 23:20

And of course if you are bottle feeding and weaning 'early', then you may as well stick pins your eyes, hang a sign from your neck declaring yourself to be a tramp and an unfit mother, and leave town on the next train out

hercules · 17/12/2005 23:21

i really couldnt care less about what mums do. However, i feel strongly about being misinformed.
