How much milk for 6.5 month old?

I have had big trouble with weaning. Still struggling but am wondering now if I am giving dd too much milk and that is why she keeps on refusing solids.
DD is 6.5 months and currently has 4x 8oz bottles a day and generally only leaves an ounce or 2 in each bottle, she also has cerial for breakfast, 2 cubes for lunch and 3 cubes for tea. She usually leaves most solids I offer tho. Am I giving her too much milk?

ok, so it wasnt 'just a bowl of ready brek' but still...

mumfor1sttime · 09/12/2005 20:19

Yes I can see in that news piece that the child was killed by ready brek...why thankyou for pointing out that my child is at risk because he eats ready brek in tiny portions every other day. Im off now before I blow my bloody top.

Ready brek is not 'bad' for a baby.
A complete diet that is high in salt is bad for baby. Especially under 12 months. A tiny bowl of ready brek is not harmful. The article explians that the baby had a high salt diet in all 3 meals, and had an 'adult diet'.

Yes, it is.

mumfor1sttime · 10/12/2005 15:24

Yes charliegirl, I thought it said 4 months too.
Explains my point even more - the baby was weaned on the wrong diet - a whole diet too high in salt from a young age.
A diet consisting of a bowl of ready brek after 6 months (or even 4 months) is not harmful as long as the overall diet is healthy!

hercules · 10/12/2005 15:27

Ready brek has no added salt. If you're worried look at the table of ingredients on it and search for ready brek under archived messages. The baby was fed a high salt diet including gravy granules.

Thanks hercules!

Charliegirl, still driving me bonkers but have tried weetabix for constipation as suggested with fab results so I'm happy again! Went to my MIL's on saturday insisting that dd wouldn't eat the pureed stew she presented me with as I have tried lots of times to get her to eat carrot, parsnip etc and lo and behold didn't dd lap it up? And MIL got all smug with me. I'm sure dd just did it to make me look bad. AGGGHHH!

DD still not eating much tho, she likes rusks and biscuits to suck on, that's the new one! In fact she likes all carbs, bugger...

Been off GF routine for a while, the weaning pattern she suggests wasn't working and dd never did the 2hr daytime nap so we are just going with the flow now, still starting the day at 7am (on days when she sleeps that long!) and generally sticking to the routine but have never let it run my life or anything!

Hi charliegirl, yes, me too, had a birarre epiphany over xmas. Been giving weetabix for breakfast and cut out the 1st bottle of the day and suddenly it's all fallen into place! She's still not keen on veg but taking fruit and my MIL's stew and seems happy enough with that.

Do you give dd dry toast? I think I'll try that, would be so handy if she'd sit and eat on her own!
Do you give anything else for tea or just toast?
