Ok starting weaning tomorrow, being a bit PFB and off to buy a steamer today Smile

I have twins who are now 6 months & 1 day old

Don't really have much of an idea what i'm doing & am not looking forward to the mess though Hmm

Does anyone want to join the thread and we can discuss how well it's going/not going?

i will just let dd drop feeds when she chooses to, im not going to stop bf on demand, as she eats more she will eventually need less milk i presume.

anyone still here?
dd wont eat mashed potato, help.
she will eat sweet potato, carrot, brocolli, apple, pear, banana, porridge, parsnip.
i blended chicken but she wasnt keen.

Hi FamilyFun, my DS is 27 weeks as well and so far he's had baby cereal, lots of fruit and veg and lately, peanut butter, chicken, egg and a bit of mashed fish. He guzzles it all up with gusto. Only thing he wasn't keen on was avocado. Oh and I pureed some potato up with brocolli and he didn't like that once it had been frozen as it went all grainy! Think it was because I pureed it rather than mashing it... :)

I would recommend peanut butter as that seems to be one of his favourites. I mix it with veg purees like carrot and sweet potato. Also yoghurt goes down well when mixed with fruit purees.

I'm going to try butter nut squash next I think. Only thing is neither DH nor I like it particularly so we will have enough in the freezer for about a year!!

thanks zimbomum, are they allowed peanut butter? dp is asthmatic so thought we should avoid peanuts?
thanks, dd does like fromage frais and she had baby rice with veg today Smile

Yep allowed from six months, but as your DP has asthma perhaps check with HV/GP first. St Thomas hosp in London are currently doing research to see if early introduction of so-called allergenic foods like peanut, cows milk, egg and wheat actually lower the incidence of food allergies. Perhaps the results will be available when our children start having kids!!

Hi all

Just wondering how everyone is getting on with weaning. We're still on two meals a day - breakfast and lunch - but wondering when to introduce dinner. DS is nearly 7 months old. On the few occasions when he didn't eat much of his lunch, we gave him a bit to eat in the evening and that seemed to help him sleep better. But when he has had a good lunch and we've tried to give him dinner he is then too full to take a proper milk feed and bedtime is a battle as he is generally fed to sleep.

What is everyone else doing? TIA.

Hi ZimboMum and all

We've just got up to three meals a day this week, having introduced 2/3 of a Weetabix with about a third of a banana at breakfast. DD's appetite has increased again so I'm giving something carby at lunch with her veg purees (about 5 cubes), like some cannellini bean mash and then either a bit of what we're having mashed up or some scrambled egg or similar for tea, followed by a fromagr frais or fruit puree with some creamy porridge. She had dropped some milk feeds as a result but seems to be needing them back this week, possibily another growth spurt?

She was weighed last week though and is bang on her centile line so I've stopped worrying about overfeeding for the moment at least!

DD was fed to sleep previously but now it's a random pattern of either needing no milk and self settling or just having a maximum of three ounces.

Hi. This is week 2 of weaning for me. I'm using Gina Ford's weaning book for general advice and portion guidelines. So far i've pureed sweet potato, pear, apple, carrot, turnip and peaches. My son has enjoyed everything. I'm using baby rice at night mixed with fruit. It looks vile but he seems to like it. Going to introduce breakfast at the weekend. Book says natural yogurt with fruit but one of my friends said she'd heard to avoid yogurt till age 1 so now i'm thinking porridge.Any advice re yogurt would be great.

My son's sleep has been ok so far but I think it's quite common for sleep to be disturbed during the whole process. My HV advised me to avoid cutting out milk feeds too quickly to avoid sleep problems. My friend's son began to wake up through the night when she was weaning.. She advised me not to give milk if this happenedbut I think I would find it hard to withhold milk if he was obviously hungry.
