I`ve never done this before even tho dc 4 !
DD1 18yrs
DD2 15 yrs
DS1 7 years
DD3 1/2 !

Totally breastfed to date and very content.
Allowed her to help herself to my plate tonight where i ensured she could reach soft green beans if she wanted to.
She loved it-made a mess-squashed it and mushed and and ALMOST sucked it !
Well thats my experience so far !
Am about a quarter way thro eading the BLW book and very confident that she`s totally fine just breastfeeding for quite a while yet as omly have to look at her to see that nature is working wonders x
Bit scared about the whole lumps bit tho but willing to give it a good go x

Good one Quenelle, will try it tomorrow.

HollyFP · 07/01/2011 16:33

Yep thanks Quenelle, will try toast. I quite enjoy watching my DD get messy with banana though Grin

HelenLG · 07/01/2011 19:30

Had mushroom, cheese and garlic bread for dinner.

The mushroom and bread was a hit, cheese not so much today. He was actually bit pieces of the mushroom off and eating them but just sucking on the bread.

Hi everyone, can I join? DD is almost 24 weeks, exclusively bf so far, thinking of giving her some fruit/veg this weekend to start playing with as she seems desperate to get her hands on our food and is pretty good at picking things up and putting them in her mouth (toys I mean) - am torn between giving her something to see her reaction (by give I mean put on her high chair tray in front of her) or waiting another couple of weeks, but that seems to be just for the sake of saying I waited til 26 weeks - am thinking that some things like roasted sweet potato / cucumber / banana would be okay?

Mummy2Bookie · 07/01/2011 20:11

nineladies wow! Did yourdd really eat some steak, chips, onion ring and mushroom pieces?
I think my own dd would love that. Has your dd had any takeaway curry?

alfonzo · 07/01/2011 20:41

Thanks for the tip about putting the apple in the microwave for a few secs Quenelle. I was going to try dd with a granny smith tomorrow but was worried bout it being too hard. She's really getting the hang of BLW and a lot is going in - it's only been 4 days! Pear seems to be a fav so far. Am thinking of having pasta for dinner tomorrow and according to the Gill Rapley book fusilli twists are good. I really can't see her managing to pick them up though - will have to see how it goes!

DancingThroughLife · 07/01/2011 20:43

Mummy, she had a good suck and chew on all of that. The onion ring ended up on the floor, she wasn't impressed. The chips and steak ended up as pulp. Mushroom disappeared, found it in her nappy whole the next day.

She's had a bit of homemade curry. She's having a bit of chilli tomorrow (she didn't stay awake long enough to share it tonight). I just make them not as spicy as normal.

alfonzo · 07/01/2011 20:44

Squareorange my dd is just short of 26 weeks and I started earlier in the week. I just knew she was ready even if not much goes in it doesn't matter anyway. She was showing the signs of sitting upright independently, lost tongue thrust, and able to pick things up and put in mouth - if your dd is showing these things I say go for it!

DancingThroughLife · 07/01/2011 20:46

Alfonzo, you'll be surprised at what they can manage when they put their minds to it.

DD demolished a rice cake earlier, there was one little bobble left on her tray and she chased it around for ages until she finally managed to pick it up.

The HV said to try her on baked beans next to get the pincer grip working. They do reduced salt & sugar beans don't they?

Mummy2Bookie · 07/01/2011 20:52

Oh lovely. I think I'll try dd on chilli. She loves korma so I think she will like mild chilli

alfonzo · 07/01/2011 21:05

Well i guess if you don't let them practice picking small things up it will take longer for them to develop that skill. Another Mum told me to try just grains of cooked rice scattered on the tray! And I think mince would make them work hard too - so the mild chilli sounds good. Not sure about low salt/sugar beans, I wouldn't have thought about checking the content actually, but now you say it baked beans do have lots added don't they?

DancingThroughLife · 07/01/2011 21:13

That's what I'm hoping. If not, I guess I'll just give her a few with the sauce siphoned off.

And I've got to introduce cheese and yoghurt too now.

Got DD weighed today and she's dipped a little bit off her line again, so I've got to up her calorie intake. She's forgetting to milk feed as much. I think she's just getting distracted by the fact that she can crawl now! Grin

Mummy, how old is your DD?

DancingThroughLife · 07/01/2011 21:14

Just reread my post. Not sure exactly what I'm hoping Blush Grin I edited that post a bit weird.

Anyway. Hoping they do low salt versions. I think Grin

I understood what you meant!Grin. Anyone else have an idea about baked beans and salt/sugar content? I'd also like to try these with dd.

alfonzo · 07/01/2011 21:37

Thanks Al Grin

I spread jam on DD's toast MyLife. And give her chips. And I'm worried about the sugar and salt in beans??? Hmm Grin

I only like Heinz, but am prepared to sacrifice them in the name of research. You're right though, it's not like she's eating a tin of them at every meal.

Mummy2Bookie · 07/01/2011 21:57

DancingThroughLife dd has just turned one.

Mummy2Bookie · 07/01/2011 22:01

I would rather my dd had the original baked beans( even with the salt/ sugar level) than give her the reduced varieties that contain sweeteners and god knows whatever rubbish.

DancingThroughLife · 07/01/2011 23:09

Oh good, there's hope yet. DD wasn't overly impressed with curry. Although that may say more about my cooking...

I tend to think the same about replacement sugar etc. Don't know why beans have caught me off guard.

alfonzo she is showing the signs of being ready, so going to try her tomorrow or maybe later today - it's exciting (but I also feel a teeny bit sad that my little girl is growing up, stupid eh?)

HelenLG · 08/01/2011 09:30

DS broke a tooth in yesterday and today I feel a bit sad... he's not a tiny baby anymore Sad

Mummy2Bookie · 08/01/2011 09:36

Wait until your lo has 8 teeth, like my dd Grin
