Hello,

Has anyone used the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit to exercise and get fit? I would really love to hear about your experiences as I bought one and intend to start using it for my -hopefully- daily exercise.

Anyone?

Yes, me and my ds7 use it! It's brilliant, lots of different modes & believe me when I say it'll get you fit.
I did 20 minutes and I was done for the day. 😂

VitVitMe · 19/08/2023 13:30

@WorseDecision Thanks for your input. Do you use it regularly? Is it just for fun or have you noticed that you got fitter thanks to using it?

I had somehow managed to never have heard of this game, but inspired by your post I have just ordered it for me and for DS16! (I know it's solo but we can take turns...)

Awww that's lovely! Please let me know how you like it.

Will do! Both of us are gamers who struggle to work up the motivation to do regular exercise.

Same here! Hope it will work for all of us.

I have it it’s good but stuck in the actual game and could not get passed level 6/7. I now use boxing game instead.

That sounds frustrating! Can I ask how you're stuck? Not that I've got the game yet, but it's something to look out for.

I keep getting told my character is not stronger enough and I need to go back make smoothies, get stronger. I re tried quite a few times then got bored with it

Unihorn · 20/08/2023 23:51

Yes we love it in our house. I lost a few pounds within the first couple of weeks of doing about 20 minutes 6 days a week. I was mainly doing it to feel fitter after having two children in pretty quick succession.

I'm much more lax with it now though a year on, I mainly do the mini games or my own routine rather than do the main gameplay now - primarily because there are a few too many squats after a certain level!

Great to hear! I am very busy and the plan is to be able to do at least 15 mnts a day. Perseverance is key here.

@Whereisthesun99 That's frustrating! I can't help as I haven't started using it yet but I hope you'll get it resolved. Did you try to search online about it? There might be simpler solutions than you might think like some kind of readjustment to the accessories.

It arrived yesterday and both my DS and I think it's amazing. Admittedly only after playing the first two "Worlds" (each World has multiple sub-levels). So we haven't yet reached the point where @Whereisthesun99 got stuck. It has pressed all of our "one more level!" gamer buttons (as each level is only around 10 minutes to play) and I have high hopes we'll stick with it.

DS jumped in at a high difficult level, I started on an easy one and will ramp up each session. It's comical how much difference it makes. It means that everyone can find something which is challenging. The game itself is incredibly good at asking how things are going, reminding you to hydrate, stretch, etc. It's a million times better than the exercise DVDs that bored me utterly a few years ago.

About 50% of each session is spent actually working out, the rest is while you're watching cutscenes or in the shops etc. It does have a rough estimate of calories burned, but that's not the point for me; I care a lot more about getting functional fitness.

Hope that you enjoy it when you start! It would be nice to compare notes.

VitVitMe · 21/08/2023 11:27

@PhotoDad That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually bought it over a month ago but decided to start using it when the kids go back to school. I only tried it for a few mnts when it arrived. What you said has actually made me more excited about using it as I am very competitive and love keeping streaks. Would you mind telling me more about how you share it with your son? I would love my kids (primary school aged) to use it as well but without messing up my achievements if possible.

Only one person can play at a time due to the controllers, but it's really fun to watch on a big screen (Nintendo does cartoony graphics and amazing music better than anyone). You can play minigame tournaments where you pass the controllers, but we haven't tried those yet.

When you select Adventure Mode, you can then pick from any account that's set up on the Switch, so do that first for you and DC if you haven't already. All progress and settings are saved for that account. We've decided to work through the story "in parallel" (one of us might pull ahead) as we're both loving it.

VitVitMe · 22/08/2023 09:27

@PhotoDad Once again thanks for your useful feedback. This confirms that I'll keep the game for myself as my kids don't do well with sharing games, passing controllers, etc; all the games they play have multiplayer modes.
Do you warm up before using the Ring Fit separately or is this included? I would appreciate some advice on this. Thanks

OP posts:
PhotoDad · 22/08/2023 10:38

It's included. Dynamic stretching for a couple of minutes at the beginning, and each level starts with some jogging-on-the-spot to get you going. Then static stretches at the end as a cooldown, and the game matches the stretches to the muscles you've used most that session, so DS and I see different ones!

The 'plot' is ridiculous and the dialogue is very cheesy, which works for us. "Armour" = new gymwear, "potions" = smoothies (which you can craft once you get to a certain point, all the mechanics are introduced slowly). Three-day streak so far since getting it, just finished World 3. I'm still finding my difficulty level... at the start of each session, you're asked "was yesterday too easy, just right, or too hard?" and it adjusts accordingly. Very hooked on it right now, I'll see how long it lasts. For the first time in my life I'm excited about tomorrow's session. Never had that with DVDs or going for a run. I hope I don't hit the bottleneck that Whereisthesun99 mentioned. @Unihorn, not looking forward to the squats!

(Reviews agree, it will get you into decent functional shape, but won't have extreme results... you'd need to add another workout to lose weight or to gain a lot of muscle. But that is fine by me.)

VitVitMe · 22/08/2023 13:19

@PhotoDad Great, thanks! I like everything you said about the game so far, even, or especially, the cheesiness. I find fitness gamification absolutely fabulous. I have lots of fitness tools at home but never seem to keep my enthusiasm for them. I am not looking at extreme results just general daily fitness. I remember years ago I used to have my daily exercise on the WII and I even scrapped the gym. It was lovely.
There are some other fitness games on the market that I might use after graduating from this one:

Those look good, but one step at a time! Let me know when you start. 😀

DS and I are on a five-day streak, I am "ahead" of him but only as he is on a higher difficulty!

PhotoDad · 30/08/2023 17:17

Done day 10! Catching up with him on difficulty. Taking Mondays as a rest day. Still really enjoying it.

VitVitMe · 30/08/2023 19:02

Well done! I am looking forward to next week. How long per day are you using it currently and are you feeling any positive changes? Keep up the good work!

OP posts:
PhotoDad · 30/08/2023 19:08

The game nags you "are you sure you want to continue?" roughly every 25-30 minutes, and normally I do either one or two of those. No huge changes yet but it's definitely a good workout.

VitVitMe · 04/09/2023 17:49

I started it today and it was amaaazing! I truly had a blast of a time. I was so tired after a mostly sleepless night with DC but pushed myself to start it today as I intended and oh boy it was lovely. I forgot my exhaustion and could have carried on playing if I had time. I finished World 1 and can't wait to do the rest.

Yay! I'm still addicted. Come home from work and play for 15-25 minutes of active time most evenings. I started on difficulty 10 as the game recommended and have kept on moving up... going to stick at 22 now. As you go through the first 5 or so worlds the game keeps adding new mechanics and you keep getting new exercises so it's never the same set for long. I can't thank you enough for starting this thread in the first place, somehow it had completely passed me by!
