Best VR headset?

I'm aware the Oculus Quest 2 is the best, but I'm a little put off by spending almost £300 as I'm somewhat new to VR. However, I don't want to end up buying a cheaper alternative and essentially wasting my money if the quality just isn't as good and I'm not getting the best VR experience.

So are there any cheaper alternatives to the Quest 2 that are still good?

The Google Earth sounds fantastic. Do you have to have an app?

musicandpassion · 10/08/2022 17:49

Mission ISS is fantastic. It's a free app and there isn't a game as such, but seeing the earth from my living room just blew my little mind

I can't seem to find the £299 offers anymore and I begrudge paying £100 more for the same item.

Hello, looking at getting this as a joint present for my kids. Are all these games you’re talking about expensive or are some things already included?

Have a look here.... www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/

It will give you an idea of what games cost. Some kid friendly games like Rec Room are free. Among Us is £7.99, and is hugely popular amongst younger VR gamers.
Games that are closer to £30 tend to be more aimed at adults due to violent themes (think zombies or warfare).

Do you have to have a Facebook acc?

Batterseabunny · 12/12/2022 12:16

Thank you @XenoBitch - really helpful. We’ve bought one!
No you don’t @SlurpSlooChortle - you can open a Meta account instead.

I have the beat saber lady gaga game and I can stay on it an hour easy and I'm sweating and knackered but it's just so good to play on your own when no one's in.

I quite like the shooting game Onward. It's really hard! I am good in the practice rounds then as soon as I play the proper game I panic like fuck and drop all my weapons Smile and end up shot.

There is a walk the plank game. It's really funny playing with a few of you. Some people can do it and some people just can't get their legs to move! It has a spider level also which I found really difficult as I am terrified of spiders.

The videos they have on there are also really good. I probably miss a lot of good stuff and functionality on mine as it's really only used for the beat saber and the videos.

My DD plays a rollacoaster one and she has a few games where you work in a shop or whatever. I can't remember what these games are called but you do different jobs. It's a game about being in work!

The boxing is a super good workout. You will sweat your tits off.

I do think it's worth the money. If you can afford to I would get the extra battery pack if you do decide to get one.

Hiya. Can you tell me which battery pack is good? Have googled and there are loads

You can get straps with built in batteries. There is the official Oculus one, but it tends to break easily. A lot of people swear by the BobVR brand.

Personally, I just have a power bank style battery (mine is Anker) I put in a pocket. I am happy with the original strap though.

I came across this thread a couple of weeks ago and was going to buy the Meta Quest 2 off the back of it but have instead pre-ordered a PS VR2.. It is so expensive though!

The best VR headset for most people: is Meta Quest.

I have hit my TV twice, and also my dog!

The game Synth Riders is one of my favourites and gets a lot of use. There is a demo for it. Beat Saber is also a popular one.

If you have bought a game and you don't like it, you can return it if you have played for less than 2 hours and bought it less than 14 days ago.

The dog can't be helped but you surely know how to set your room boundaries?

Meta bought out Occulus, I have a Quest 2 and love it!
I don't have the extra battery as a few hours and I'm exhausted and disoriented.

Yes, but I set it bigger than the space I actually have otherwise I would be constantly seeing the guardian.
I am more aware of the space now, and only punch myself in the face and not my TV.

Do you take the same approach to actual walls? Being aware of them is keeping you safe.

SmokyForTheWin · 16/05/2023 14:31

I'm considering getting one of these for my DD. Is all the hardware in the headset? Or do you need to use a computer as well?

You don't need a computer but you must have a device that can access the Internet. A smartphone is the minimum.

Why are you asking?
I have had my headset since launch, and am now a lot more aware of the space I regularly use.
This is not the AIBU board.

I didn't realise that you were an experienced user. No offence was intended, I was simply trying to explain that disregarding the guardian is like disregarding a wall. My bad for not wording it right.

SmokyForTheWin · 18/05/2023 11:47

Thanks @SweetiePi3 .
I'm going to get one. There are no deals are there? Everywhere seems to offer the same thing - £400 for the hardware + 2 games.

SmokyForTheWin · 18/05/2023 11:49

Are the referral codes for £30 of free games still valid? If so, could someone please DM me one?
TIA

I haven't seen any recently, but you could try shopping around.
