Shiny new thread!

I'm loving the new special research. I'm not loving that none of my Pikachu have been shiny. Harrumph (Dr)

Another question, this time regarding gyms and the bronze, silver, gold status.

How does this work? Is it based on how long you have defended it? Because I have one gym which is silver and I have defended it for 1d 11h but another gym which is still bronze but I've defended it for longer.

pottypotamus Lots of different factors contribute to your gym badge status. Each activity at a gym earns a certain number of points.

Here is a breakdown:
• Placing a Pokemon in a gym (+100 Badge XP)
• A Pokemon defending a gym (+1 Badge XP per minute)
• Defeating a Pokemon in a gym (CP of Pokémon defeated divided by 100)
• Winning a raid battle (+ 1000 Badge XP)
• Feeding a Pokemon a berry (+ 10 Badge XP, as well as 20 Stardust and candy chance)

A bronze badge requires 500 XP, a silver badge requires 3,500 XP and a gold badge requires 26,000 XP.

So you can see the fastest way by far to get gold on a gym is raiding at it, following by regular gym battles.

In terms of your personal gyms, it means the gym you’re silver at will have seen much more activity from you than the bronze one.

How many level 40s are on here, and what do you do when you reach 40?
Some of the players locally start again with a new account, even another team, whereas others count XP and then refer to themselves as 40 X 2 etc.
There's even a 40 X 7! (Allegedly - although the insane amount of stardust seems to back that up.)
What are you all planning to do?

pottypotamus · 09/12/2018 22:28

Wow...didn't realise so much contributed to gym badge status. Thanks a lot for all the info @WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue!
Yes I've definitely raised more at the silver gym! Just have to get out there and raid more!

ContraryToPopularBelief · 09/12/2018 23:02

I think I deserve a 10k egg!! 🤣🤣

BaronessBomburst · 09/12/2018 23:20

That's impressive!

PickAChew · 10/12/2018 00:05

Baroness, the day I reached level 40, I started an account to play with Ds2. As Ds2 is involved, there's no chance of grinding and evolving with lucky eggs, but the game has changed do much, since it started, that even with his cooperation (haha) we've just reached level 28, after 7 weeks.

That took me at least 6 months.

PickAChew · 10/12/2018 00:25

Aww, look, the gen 2 release.

Seems I was level 31, then.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 10/12/2018 06:58

pick I was towards the end of lvl 34 when DD started her account, I've played since the start though I don't get much chance to raid etc. Since they've changed the way things work with the game I think I levelled up to 37 in less time than it took me to go from 33 to 34. DD in that time is now lvl 31 and she gets far less play than me!

I understand that it will take less candies/stardust to get it to max CP but will it actually be better than a non lucky equivalent in a raid/battle ?

TimberTot No. Lucky Pokemon have no advantage over regular Pokemon in battle. The only positive about them is that they take less candies and stardust to power up, but if the Pokemon is useless, that’s irrelevant.

What is the Pokemon?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 10/12/2018 14:11

It’s a big fat grey Rhino !

TimberTot Do you mean it’s Rhydon?

If so, despite being early gen it is still meta relevant and is the best ground attacker after the legendary Groudon (although Groudon far outclasses Rhydon).

It’s best moveset is Mud Slap/Earthquake, but Rhydon does suffer a little from poor moves; Mud Slap is really too slow for a fast move, while Earthquake has a very large damage window and move cooldown so it makes it easy to dodge.

If you have a Sinnoh stone and the ability to evolve it into Rhyperior however, you really should. It has superior stats and STAB movesets for both of its types.

Rhyperior still fails to compete with the likes of Groudon, but the new rock moves bring it more in line with legacy Tyrannitar.

Is it definitely 97% IV? As in, you’ve appraised it in game, screenshot it into PokeGenie and added the in game appraisal into PokeGenie in order to get an accurate IV reading?

MonaChopsis · 10/12/2018 16:12

Two new pokestops have appeared at the back of my house.

So near and yet so far! It’s so frustrating I can’t quite reach them from my house!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 10/12/2018 21:20

Oh that’s just cruel Cookie!

TallulahBetty · 10/12/2018 21:50

Anyone else have a "shiny nest" where they always seem to get their shinies? Total coincidence I'm sure but I've caught 3 shinies in the last 2 weeks, all at out local retail park. More or less in the same spot! How weird is that?

BaronessBomburst · 10/12/2018 22:21

I like your outfit Cookie.

No, all of my shinies have been random.

WitchSharkadder · 11/12/2018 08:08

Yes, Tallulah, I live in a tiny village but often get a bus to our nearest city. The first street the bus passes through on the outskirts of the city there’s usually a shiny waiting for me. I’ve got 4 shiny Pinsirs, Shellder, Minun, 2 Pikachus and a Makuhita there. It’s the only spot I’ve found shinys outside of community days.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 11/12/2018 10:01

It's a Rhyhorn. Current moves are Mudslap/Bulldoze but I have some unused fast/charged TM's so could try and change the Bulldoze one.

TimberTot Ahh, if it’s only a Rhyhorn do not change the moveset as a Pokemon’s moves change upon evolution anyway. So if you’re going to take it all the way to Rhyperior, wait until it is Rhyperior, see the moves it has and then change them if they’re not up to par.

Changing moves before a Pokemon has reached its final evolution stage is just a waste of TMs.

Tinkerbellisnotafairy · 11/12/2018 10:31

Why are there no Cubones around when you need them??!! 😡😡

Another call for LoudestLoudred - we are due to go ultra Smile

tryingtocatchthewind · 11/12/2018 10:39

It sucks Tinkerbell but just think how excited you are going to be when you get one!
