Shiny new thread!

I'm loving the new special research. I'm not loving that none of my Pikachu have been shiny. Harrumph (Dr)

I've got a 87% IV magikarp that I need to evolve for the special research. It's a Level 16 mon, is it worth powering up now, powering after evolving or at all?

pottypotamus At level 16 it’s too low to power up to be worth the cost. I would advise against evolving and/or powering up any Pokemon under Level 20 due to the candy and stardust costs.

It costs 66 candies and 75,000 stardust to take a Pokemon from level 20 to level 30, so to take it from level 16 to level 30 that is 82 candies and 92,600 stardust.

That’s an extra 17,600 dust, and 87% isn’t that high an IV so it’s not worth it for that either.

So I would say that no, it’s not worth it.

Thanks @WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue

I won't waste my stardust and candy on it then.
Just can't seem to catch any higher level magikarp. I'll keep looking.

BaronessBomburst · 23/11/2018 22:14

@pottypotamus do you have anyone to trade with? DS and I trade high CP low IV pokes with each other to see if they improve, or if we get luckies. It costs 100 stardust a pop but you can make that up feeding naneps to your local gym.
I've ended up with some pretty decent Pokémon that way - including a lucky Alakazam and a lucky Scyther.

pottypotamus · 23/11/2018 22:50

Oooh @BaronessBomburst
I didn't think about trading to change CP!
Yes my DH has just started playing so waiting till we are better friends so stardust cost isn't too much to trade. Thanks, might just try that!

Also what are lucky pokemon and how do you get them? Are they in the wild? I have never come across any.

tryinganewname · 23/11/2018 22:55

Please can I join the thread? I played when it first came out but then felt a little addicted so I quit! Just got back from Florida and the theme parks are amazing for catching so started up again! Need to catch up to DH!

Took my first gym tonight, from the comfort of my own home Grin

WitchSharkadder · 23/11/2018 23:34

Welcome, Trying!

I’m Envy at you being able to reach a gym from your house.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 23/11/2018 23:51

pottypotamus No, they’re not in the wild or in eggs. You can only get lucky Pokemon via trade.

When you trade, the Pokemon has a chance of becoming lucky, and the longer you’ve had the Pokemon, the higher the chance of it becoming lucky. So, Pokemon from summer 2016 are almost guaranteed to be lucky, whereas ones you’ve caught this year not so much.

(If you have less than 10 lucky Pokemon, then any Pokemon traded from July and August 2016 has a 100% chance of becoming lucky.)

Lucky Pokemon have base stats starting from 12/12/12 and the stardust cost of powering them up is 50% lower.

So while they can be amazing for the likes of Tyrannitar, Dragonite, Gyarados etc, there’s little point in a Lucky Pokemon you aren’t going to battle with as the stats and low stardust cost becomes irrelevant.

Not if you're 8. Grin
Lucky Delacatties and Piplups are amazing too and have to be shown to the entire playground.

SneakyGremlins · 24/11/2018 00:48

@tryinganewname welcome! I live on two gyms Grin great isn't it?

tryinganewname · 24/11/2018 09:24

I have to go to a certain point of my house to reach the gym but it's great, I can reach the Pokestop anywhere in the house though Grin

I have a lucky Pikachu and a shiny Cubone.
Caught a Ditto this morning that was masquerading as a gulpin!

Still holding the gym, there's 5 of us now.

My current mission is to get all 5 evolved Eevee's.

pottypotamus · 24/11/2018 17:26
