How do you mean "checking news? Trash? What does that do in relation to friendship XP?

If you know who you are due to go great/ultra/best with then you can check in the news/notifications bit to see if they have opened the gift you sent. It's the same information that pops up at the top when you open the game. As the XP is only added when you get the notification screen, if you can check news and then open items and use a lucky egg before the notification screen shows, you can still get the extra XP. You need to be relatively quick but the notification screen won't show while your off the main view.

I hope that makes sense because I'm hopeless at explaining things clearly in writing

Anyone else noticed since gen 4, the gift rate from pokestops/gyms seem to have tailed off a bit?

I've felt like I was getting less gifts from pokéstops for the last couple of days too.

Is anyone else getting unusual spawns? Caught a wild Vaporeon yesterday and I usually don't even see a Eevee

Yes, I had noticed less gifts over the last few days. What I have noticed though is that there are some pokestops more likely to drop one than others. Fortunately one of those is at the bottom of my garden!

I've noticed a few more wild evolved Pokemon's about- I caught a wild Slowbro the other day.

I've been finding it harder to find gifts too. The update meant spawns were going to be more varied.

I also have pokestops that give out more gifts than others which is why you all get gifts from the Conservative club

I'm finding gifts very patchy again when for a time there were quite regular. I get several days where I'm lucky to get 2 followed by a couple of days where every stop is firing them at me. I've been lucky the last couple of days so I'm expecting a drought again soon.
