Bear Grylls abandons veganism

So. Bear Grylls has officially stopped being a vegan and gone full-on carnivore, eating three steaks a day, even for breakfast. He is an offal enthusiast and says he's never felt better. He avoids vegetables and all carbs apart from fruit.

It's up to him, but I think that the carnivore diet oozes first world privilege. What if every human on the planet ate like this? (And why shouldn't they - why should it just be the preserve of western people?) How long would the world's resources last?

If people want to eat meat on this scale - and I don't understand how he isn't chronically constipated - then humans will have to turn to lab-grown beef and chicken. Of course, the people who do espouse this WOE are appalled by the prospect. but is there really any alternative? @ExplodingSmittens BG helped baptise Russell Brand in the Thames in what I see as a terrible missed opportunity - the immersion should have been much more leisurely.

I don’t think your argument should include people in the “third world” with a “poor them”. My family are from a country that is considered “poor” to western standard, but they all eat meat and enjoy it very much. I’m talking about the family out there - but of course they have much nicer meat and it’s all organic.

I almost thing veganism is privilege behaviour. To be able to not have meat yet compensate for the loss of potential vitamins and proteins with top ups of expensive pills, alternative man made food and not forgetting we still have to reap the earth for vegetables - and farming is a huge contributor to climate crisis - if we want to go down that route. Was the avocado mafia real??

I also say this as a family that has reduced meat but has to include more of it due to our youngest suffering from a deficiency which according to his paediatrician can be primary solved by increase meat in his diet.

Didn't know he'd got religion. Yes, it goes with the territory. He'll be extolling the virtues of trad wives next.

He's never not had religion. He was raised a Christian and it's got stronger over time.

@Fgfgfg yes you’re right, religion has always been a feature. It was also his mother who got him into Juice Plus as she was keen on exploitative pyramid schemes and stripping money from some of the most financially vulnerable. Over the years he’s made frequent health claims about the zero evidence vegetable dust capsules. He has been drinking Kool Aid for a long time. He’s also been well schooled in living a bit of lie. Not sure how Christian all of the above is.

When I look at that photo of him I hear "You look nice Jackie".

Ever since his involvement with Brand I think he's somewhat dodgy.

So he was never vegan then if he had burgers once or twice a week.

I don't eat meat because I have animal welfare concerns but if I was this eejit I would perhaps have gone back to meat but used my high profile to extol the merits of eating a little meat, but much higher welfare meat.

Did he not consider something between vegan and 'eating gristle' ?
But then a sensible middle path probably wouldn't have won the tit headlines.

Why does he think the world needs to know? Full of his own self importance. And clearly him going vegan was never about the animals, it was all about his ego.

I don't think 12p a day can be considered expensive (Veg1 supplements from Vegan Society). And who says you have to eat "alternative man made food"? What does that even mean? Hedgehog flavour crisps? "Reaping the earth for vegetables" as a problem compared to the meat industry is pretty desperate 😀. This standard of argument does however suggest I'm wasting my time engaging, however, so I think I'll just go back to feasting on grass and cardboard 😅

Another vegan-to-carnivore sleb. I've just watched a Brand video, don't ask me why but I was curious about him having learned he'd got religion, and I had to turn it off after three minutes of hand-waving, ranting and 'Our Lord'. The guy is utterly unhinged and insufferable. I find it quite frightening how men are embracing all this stuff.
