Bear Grylls abandons veganism

So. Bear Grylls has officially stopped being a vegan and gone full-on carnivore, eating three steaks a day, even for breakfast. He is an offal enthusiast and says he's never felt better. He avoids vegetables and all carbs apart from fruit.

It's up to him, but I think that the carnivore diet oozes first world privilege. What if every human on the planet ate like this? (And why shouldn't they - why should it just be the preserve of western people?) How long would the world's resources last?

If people want to eat meat on this scale - and I don't understand how he isn't chronically constipated - then humans will have to turn to lab-grown beef and chicken. Of course, the people who do espouse this WOE are appalled by the prospect. but is there really any alternative? The survival expert has revealed he now follows a meat-heavy diet after abandoning veganism, saying the change was prompted by concerns over his family's health and his own wellbeing.

Ok so? Maybe people need to stop trying to control people and their decisions and thoughts that should have died out in WWII

Ooih · 31/07/2026 23:50

I feel sorry for him. He was a vegan and now an extreme meat eater.

That feels a bit unbalanced and pathetic. Especially since it seems to be a bit of an identity.

I eat food in moderation and balance, surely that's more normal and healthy.

Bikenutz · 31/07/2026 23:54

Yeah there’s something attention seeking / dysfunctional about lurching from one extreme to the other.

SummerSummerSummertime · 31/07/2026 23:56

Hmm he’s also besties with Russell Brand. Not my favourite man.

HappyOctober · 31/07/2026 23:58

So he thought animals, which are vulnerable, shouldn’t be taken advantage of unnecessarily- but now he’s changed his mind, and thinks that’s actually fine. Hmmm 🤔

YouOKHun · 01/08/2026 00:06

He used to promote Juice Plus MLM cult. I just don’t think he’s very authentic.

NoodleHorses · 01/08/2026 00:15

I am concerned that the Woolly Bear caterpillar sitting on his top lip might become a snack.
He can eat whatever, why does he have to make a big ta-da about it?

Seasonofthesticks · 01/08/2026 00:15

He’s an absolute attention seeking idiot, and a bit thick.

OrangeFlower14 · 01/08/2026 00:19

Lots of people give up being vegan

To be honest, I'm not sure I believe he ever was

Maybe he was just doing it as an experiment

HarrietSchulenberg · 01/08/2026 00:22

There's not much that twat won't do for attention. I seem to recall him jumping out of a helicopter and, immediately upon landing, ripping his tshirt up, pissing on it, and wearing it as a hat as a survival tactic.
He's just such an arsehole.

UsernameHoarder · 01/08/2026 00:25

This sounds very disordered.

And as if his identity is some how bound up with his diet.

Neither of these seem healthy ro me. Hopefully his steaks are proving physically healthy at least.

HumberSquid · 01/08/2026 00:32

Meat heavy diets are traditional in Mongolia and the Arctic circle, so not really sure where you're getting "first world privilege" from.

Veganism doesnt work for everybody and is certainly not healthy for everybody, even if it would benefit many people.

Heyhelga · 01/08/2026 00:34

Never heard of him but sounds like his vegan era was just some sort of attention seeking exercise.

I doubt he's hunting/rearing/ slaughtering the animals himself! The diets of those people you mention are sustainable, western carnivore diets not so, not at the volumes he's recommending anyway.

His authenticity? Reminds me of the time he was filmed by some remote volcano or something, might not be a volcano but somewhere remote, and someone went there and videoed the place, started panning out and there was a massive road right next to it!

ParchedGarden · 01/08/2026 02:52

Oh well I’m still awake, so I found the video I mentioned above. It made me chuckle 😁.

Chancer. If he hadn't gone to eton and had the networks then he'd be nothing. I don't believe he could survive the middle aisle of aldi.

Wasnt it reported he was actually staying in a hotel when filming one of his survival programmes?

Flinderskleepers · 01/08/2026 08:06

He a religious nut anyway, never quite the full ticket

jackstini · 01/08/2026 08:15

Hardly new news - he did it 6 years ago when his son had health issues due to his vegan diet

He went basically paleo, meat, nuts, fruit, honey - avoiding UPFs etc

Edited

This has made me actually laugh out loud, the dramatic music contrasting with the guy just casually walking over then zooming on the road is amazing 😂

HelpMeGetThrough · 01/08/2026 08:44

Oh bugger.

If I was ever in a sticky situation, I’d always ask myself “what would Bear Grylls do?”. I’d often end up pissing in a cup and drinking it, or ripping off my clothes and going for a swim. I guess now I’ll be cooking a steak. 🤷

YouOKHun · 01/08/2026 08:57

@ParchedGarden 🤣😂 it reminds me (and I see @Fizbosshoes recalls the same) that some hacked off members of the crew on one of his survival type programmes said that he was mainly surviving overnight in a hotel after a decent supper, a case of Man versus Hilton Hotels room service.

The traditional carnivore diets in the arctic circle are only sustainable until there are too many people living there ...
