Best dairy-free milk for Yorkshire Tea?

I've been an "almost-vegan" for a while, save for having a small drop of cows milk in my cup of Yorkshire Tea.
As I don't have a lot of milk, I'm sure I'll be able to make the change quite quickly and without feeling like I'm missing out on anything. The thought of having more than a tiny drop of cows milk makes me feel quite repulsed these days anyway.
I'm just wondering what dairy-free milk vegans think goes best with Yorkshire Tea?
Thanks in advance!

I like soya milk for tea. Almond milk is ok in coffee but tastes a bit oily in tea

Worriedworry · 14/10/2018 09:14

Second soya milk. I quite like the one in Aldi.

abbsisspartacus · 14/10/2018 09:14

Cashew milk is wonderful but it does taste more like full fat milk if you see what I mean

LoniceraJaponica · 14/10/2018 09:15

I have tried every plant milk under the sun, but none of them make tea taste good IMO.

I’m a soya fan for everything, probably Oatly second, but none of them will taste exactly right you just have to persevere until your tastebuds adapt. When I gave up dairy I had no hot drinks for about 5 months, when I started then go again with dairy free milk it didn’t feel like as much of s change. Going from dairy one day to vegan milk the next it will taste odd for a while.

Alpro soya light

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/10/2018 09:17

Plenish Cashew

That makes sense Rain
BTW it is raining today.

I've got exactly the same problem - I'm eating a mostly plant based diet but I'm struggling with giving up milk in tea. I've trained myself to drink black coffee and I actually prefer it now without milk, but I don't really like black tea and I don't like dairy free milk in tea. I only have a tiny splash and a pint of normal milk lasts a fortnight.
I've been thinking maybe I should give up drinking tea altogether for a couple of weeks then try again with black tea to see if my tastebuds adjust.

Hemp milk. Soya is not good for the environment. Hemp is a good alternative and comes in unsweetened versions too. It uses far less water than the same equivalent of soya.

Ceilingrose · 14/10/2018 10:05

Is hemp milk actually nice?

LiquoricePickle · 14/10/2018 10:08

Cashew for the win! I also don't mind soya or barista oat milk.

NannyR · 14/10/2018 10:08

I quite like hemp milk, it doesn't have a particularly strong taste, nice and neutral.

LoniceraJaponica · 14/10/2018 10:10

Is hemp milk widely available? I don't recall seeing it in the supermarket.

DialsMavis · 14/10/2018 10:12

Oat milk is the only thing I can stomach in tea and that took months!

NannyR · 14/10/2018 10:17

The brand I've bought is good hemp in a blue and white carton. It's with all the uht dairy free milks on the shelf.

abbsisspartacus · 14/10/2018 15:29

I found hemp .milk fishy

cushioncovers · 15/10/2018 20:48

Oat milk.

Vintagegoth · 15/10/2018 20:53

Koko dairy free which is a coconut based milk is nice in tea if you like your tea on the sweet side. Doesn't curdle unlike some milk substitutes.

PerditaNitt · 15/10/2018 21:15

Oatly barista is the hands down winner in my view. Much prefer it to cow’s milk now. Bit pricey, but worth it

Booksandwine80 · 16/10/2018 20:04

I had oatly barista in my tea this morning-I’m converted!

wheresmyhairytoe · 16/10/2018 20:06

I like almond milk in tea.

Leatherboundanddown · 16/10/2018 20:08

Hemp milk in tea. Hazlenut for coffee. Mmmmm

MrsPob · 16/10/2018 20:09

Rice milk all the way for me - doesn't taste of much so doesn't mask the taste of the tea.

Ceilingrose · 18/10/2018 23:38

Isn't almond milk watery? I bought some recently and even quite a lot of it still leaves the tea/coffee v dark
