For the vegans here, I really recommend the book "Skinny Bitch"
It's not actually about being skinny and the authors make that clear, it's about a healthy way of life with everything.
It's hilariously written, I was laughing out loud "Ok bitches, caffeine is bad for you because xyz, quit it now. Stop whining, it's not f-ing heroin!"
It has lots of knowledge in it, there is one chapter about the animal products industry, it's not too graphic but they do say we are not trying to scare anyone into changing their diet, we are trying to be positive about a healthy lifestyle, but we felt we had to include a chapter about some of what goes on, skip it if you don't want to read it for whatever reason, it's absolutely find.
It's a really positive book and also full of really good information.
I am vegan and I don't like the animal industry as I said, however I do not like vegetarians or vegans who talk about their "cruelty free" life in a superior way. I've come across a few who are sure they are spreading the love because the don't hurt animals, but they are not kind to humans! Ignore is usually best with that.
Most vegans just do their own thing. I don't think I'm superior (occasionally when I think about sushi I think I am a damn fool), I just know the things I eat work for my body.
I don't advertise (precisely because it can be associated with the self righteous feeling and the response of being completely closed off), but if someone asks because they are genuinely interested and aren't trying to criticise, I will answer. It's never a "you should", it's a "well I find xyz to be really good, I feel well with lots of energy and I get to stuff my face all the time". I also say, it is often more expensive so maybe not always a choice, it's important to make sure get all vitamins so it's about making sure you have lots of all the good things, not just cut things out and it's about choosing what is best for you.
