Missing chocolate

I'm three weeks into being a vegan and missing chocolate. Are there any truly decent substitutes? I know there is dairy free chocolate but I've tried some and it just doesn't cut it, I've been reading about the horrible process of milking to try and stave off cravings!

There's infinite varieties of dairy free alternative. Are you set on milk? Because good quality dark chocolate is dairy free anyway.

It'll set you back a pretty penny but try Booja-Booja chocolate ice cream, it's the bidness. Stocked in Waitrose and a lot of health food shops.

I find Moo Free rice milk chocolate is pretty rubbish but there are other better versions.

Hotel chocolat high percentage chocolates tend to be vegan don't they?

Some of Montezuma's are suitable for vegans:

And it's nice chocolate Grin!

TheWitchAndTrevor · 05/09/2017 16:47

Have you tried these chocolate bars?

I'm not vegan but their truffle chocolate bars are delicious.

fizzicles · 05/09/2017 16:50

Loads of dark chocolate is vegan. It doesn't need to be particularly expensive stuff

TheWitchAndTrevor · 05/09/2017 16:52

Ooops sorry, wrong company! Blush

This is the place I meant

noitsachicken · 05/09/2017 16:54

Aldi coconut chocolate 'ice cream' is really good

MyfatheristheKing · 05/09/2017 16:56

Sainsburys do a nice own brand chocolate orange bar. It just a little one, think it's only 40p. In the free from section

VanillaSugar · 05/09/2017 16:57

Make your own: raw cocoa powder, ground almonds and coconut cream or oil depending on the constituency you want.

Add in vanilla essence or brandy, the choice is yours!

DrE678 · 05/09/2017 16:58

Booja Booja are amazing! Their raspberry truffles are better than even non vegan chocolate.

Ragnar · 05/09/2017 19:41

thanks for the headsup about mountezums and hotel chocolat, they are more 'normal' so will give them a go :) im not up for making my own at the moment, its enough of a lifestyle shift as it is for now and I want a grab and go but may be up for that at a later date,

Is bloody awesome

Unexpectedbaby · 05/09/2017 20:00

I like ombar. They do buttons and bars. Eat the regularly even though I'm not vegan.

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 05/09/2017 20:03

Essy and Bella online. Best milk choc alternative I found (give the lime and sea salt a swerve, but the orange crunch was gorgeous). And booja booja champagne truffles are to die for!

ppeatfruit · 06/09/2017 13:47

I reckon that Moo Free vegan milk chocolate is much nicer than the Branded milk chocolate bars;they went so far down in quality that it makes Moo Free very good in comparison. A bit sugary but still all the other stuff is twice as sweet!

ppeatfruit · 06/09/2017 13:49

Vanilla sugar I tried making my own with 75% chocolate and rice milk and it didn't 'set' . Is cocoa the best to use?

ppeatfruit · 06/09/2017 13:50

Could you give me the method please? Thanks.

Whippetmamma · 06/09/2017 13:51

Om Bar! Made with coconut milk but doesn't taste coconutty, it's my favourite chocolate even though I'm not vegan :-)

SasBel · 06/09/2017 13:51

Another vote for hotel chocolat, bloody lovely chocolates!

VanillaSugar · 06/09/2017 17:32

VanillaSugar · 06/09/2017 17:34

Here's the method. You can flavour this with sea salt or rose extract or cayenne & orange extract or peppermint oil.

Soak some cashews for an hour then blend with medjool dates, coconut oil (I use the mild stuff so not too coconutty), raw cacao powder and coco powder. Roll mixture into balls and put in fridge for 4 hours. Honestly they taste better than choc, just like truffles. They will do you a few days worth as well although incredibly moorish!

ppeatfruit · 07/09/2017 12:08

Thanks very much Vanilla I'll do that!

I'll make yours for Christmas mummar I'm not good with coconut or cashews so I'll use almonds. Thanks for it Grin
