i have a pal who's due to give birth in June in Knaresborough so i'd like to go and visit her and be available for her, and i want to visit someone in York also.

Where's a good spot to stay with the kids? Is there a beach that's good (i really, really, haven't looked at anything, all i've done vis a vis Yorkshire research is watch Red Riding... )

i quite fancy a static caravan or cabin or somesuch. dd1 would LOVE that.

Scarborough not far from either. Loads of caravan places around and nice beach.

Yorkshire Coast

knareborough's almost as posh as harrogate! you can visit mother shipton's cave (owned by paul daniels, or maybe i'm going mad...). loads to do in york, railway, castle & jorvik museums, walking on the walls, good parks, lots of places to eat. scarborough's a fair way though, at least 40 miles from york. so you might want to stay near your friend for a while.

AitchTwoOh · 07/03/2009 22:45

are you... YORKISH, hoxton?

York is fab - I lived there for a couple of years. And the coast is lovely - proper NE coast beaches - just great. This'll be your second holiday in 2 years, Aitch!

Staithes is lovely but wee fishing village just North of Whitby, but it's clinging to the cliffs so not much in the way of gardens, but we've stayed in a few different cottages there and it's lovely. It has a beach, rocks loaded with fossils, crab fishing aplenty, some nice eateries and seagulls. We go for a week in the summer and have only felt the need to leave the village four times in three years.

York is great; loads and loads of things to do. Knareborough nice too. Not been to Mother Shipton's cave but it's supposed to be interesting.

If you have a penchant for dark holes in the ground, Stump Cross Caverns nr Harrogate is good...nice cafe there too.

There is Brimham Rocks as well also nr Harrogate, but might be a bit worry making with little little children.

Accommodation wise....Not a Yurt but looks interesting. They have a site nr Richmond (45 mins to Knaresborough) or another on the North York Moors so handy for the coast and for York/Knaresborough. Not cheap though!!

Leeds is close for a day trip with it's erm.....well if you wanted to visit Leeds you can!!

AitchTwoOh · 07/03/2009 23:14

did you just write eateries, lacka? rofl.

am off to look at your link, ta.

AitchTwoOh · 07/03/2009 23:16

oooooh, nice. i'm going to have to get to grips with the distances i think, so i don't spend the entire time driving around.

i've always wanted to go to one of these places, but they don't have one in yorkieland.

one near you, habs, you up for it?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 07/03/2009 23:18

lol have just realised that it's the same place i just enthused over with habbibu. does look really nice, though.

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 23:31

we are ver, ver quaint in yorkshire aitch

That retreat place looks superb, but DH says it's too close to home for us to justify spending that much money on a holiday
