i have a pal who's due to give birth in June in Knaresborough so i'd like to go and visit her and be available for her, and i want to visit someone in York also.

Where's a good spot to stay with the kids? Is there a beach that's good (i really, really, haven't looked at anything, all i've done vis a vis Yorkshire research is watch Red Riding... )

i quite fancy a static caravan or cabin or somesuch. dd1 would LOVE that.

you should go to the place i just linked to, lacka. that's far enough to justify and gorgeous to boot... a tent with a stove, i mean, come ON.

Here's Sawday's list of self-catering in Yorkshire.

Habbibu · 08/03/2009 13:36

The train one looks fab!

Habbibu · 08/03/2009 13:37

And how gorgeous are these?!

AitchTwoOh · 08/03/2009 19:45

i fear that we are moving awfy far from the static caravan/yurt/cabin...

featherdown, though, habs? looks gorgeous doesn't it?

Knares is jolly nice and old and pretty - there is a 'special' beach for locals (ie nice sandy cove by river)

Harrogate has nice shops and a lovely park with paddling pool

Robin Hood's Bay is my seaside town of choice but crap for pushchairs (really stteep hill)
Some company is doing those wigwam wooden shed thingies near robin hood's bay.

LackaDAISYcal · 08/03/2009 19:53

oooh, featherdown tents look lurvely. Maybe next year as we are booked up for this year already!

mollyroger · 08/03/2009 19:53

look at these things

about 12 miles out of York

mollyroger · 08/03/2009 19:55

if your kids weren't so wee, I'd offer you my vessel...

Sorry, Dalby forest is around 30 miles from York. I can't count!

AitchTwoOh · 08/03/2009 19:59

my kids would love a pirate ship, molly...

Get a tent, simple. Will be cheaper (if you can borrow one and and not have to buy one it will be anyway)

AitchTwoOh · 08/03/2009 20:01

yeah, i'm not sure i can be arsed camping, tbh. i've never done it before (as an adult, that is) and dh is a hotel-loving ponce so i know i'd end off doing everything myself...

i do want to go camping though, but just not for the first time.

this is a nice site, 4 miles from Knaresborough, and they say they have statics available to hire..

AitchTwoOh · 09/03/2009 19:57

looked great, that, mol. i phoned them and they said it was statics for sale only. boo.

this says you cant contact them about short breaks Between harrogate and knaresborough

less posh, but in Knaresborough, short breaks avaialble in june

again in Knaresborough

Knaresborough is around 20-25 minutes' drive away from York.

mrspnut · 09/03/2009 20:39

What about Rudding Park

They do cottages and lodges and it's a nice little complex. We camped there when we lived in harrogate and we had a fantastic time.

It's on the way out of Harrogate towards Wetherby but it's easy to get on the bypass to Knaresborough and York from there as well as being close to Harrogate.

There's play equipment, a pool and a pub on the site so you don't even need to drive in the evenings.

EachPeachPearMum · 10/03/2009 18:57

This is where you want to be.... gypsy caravans- children will love it. (don't know how close it is to Knaresborough though)

mrspnut · 10/03/2009 19:01

It's a few hours drive to Knaresborough from Whitby, really nice though and lots for the kids to grub about doing.

tinierclanger · 10/03/2009 19:09

This place is gorgeous, bit far though, and pricey!

fryalot · 10/03/2009 19:11

you could stay at Cawood it's 28 miles from Knaresborough, ten minutes from York, half an hour from Leeds, an hour from the coast.

And it's a lovely little village on the banks of the river Ouse, with a brill pub on the riverside.

AitchTwoOh · 11/03/2009 22:07

see the thing is, i think my pal wants to see us a lot, and she won't be driving. hmmm. i think we need to be nearer knaresborough than the coast. which is a pisser.

Rudding Park is about 10 minutes drive from Knaresborough and is only 30 minutes from York and it is gorgeous.

AitchTwoOh · 12/03/2009 13:17

oh that's good then. it does look rudding gorgeous. although pri-hicey...

I have a shed on my allotment if you're after rustic charm...There's a water butt and everything. And a few decrepit leeks to nibble on. And a garden waste burner to sit round on an evening.
Job's a good 'un!

AitchTwoOh · 12/03/2009 16:17

you are too, too kaind...
