We off to Sherwood Forest Centre Parcs tomorrow and I am thinking of booking in the spa, but I will have to go on my own so dh can look after kids. Just wondered if anyones been on their own was it ok? Dont know if I will feel comfortable and enjoy it as much. Any advice/tips grateful. TIA.

Its ok but not very relaxing as
a) men there
b) very busy

bellabelly · 05/03/2009 14:20

I am going to centreparcs soon and was wondering about booking the spa - have held off because it seems awfully expensive and not sure I'd enjoy it much on my own (DH would be looking after the kids). thanks for this thread, think it has made my mind up to give it a miss.

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 14:21

and all the peopel in robes look like they are mental tbh.
Id rather book a session in a salon at home

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 14:21

oh we had a lesbian floor show( pair in the pool) in ours.
was most odd

DrewPWiener · 05/03/2009 14:22

( re price we went on the sunday night - was cheaper and was glad i didnt pay more)

KingCanuteIAm · 05/03/2009 14:24

I went and loved it - I think you just need a taste for the finer things in life

Oh and if you are feeling a little odd there are loads of rooms where it is only to natural to shut your eyes and bock it all out anyway!

(I love the room with just two couches in it was soooo realxing - and unexpected)!

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 14:26

when we go i always say to myself "yes this time i will book a sesh"
but i never do but i dont ever regret it
theres so much to do with the bairns you dont bother inthe end

i possibly go for a certaint rreatment but not to sit around with a robe on

nailpolish · 05/03/2009 14:28

me too id rather treat myself beofre i go at a salon at home - i always have a fake tan spray befroe i go

bobbyboboo · 05/03/2009 14:45

Oh dear, was hoping for a more positive response! They do an evening session from 6-9 which is £25.00, didnt think that too much if I went in and decided it wasnt for me.

I haven't been in the spa but I did have a nice hair cut there. My mum had a hand massage and really enjoyed it. The staff were really friendly and the place seemed fairly relaxed when we went.

claricebean · 05/03/2009 15:31

Ooh, I always go and love it. Mind you, we go in term time so perhaps it is quieter then. I take a good book or magazine to read in the upstairs chill out areas. It's fab.

dublinmom · 06/03/2009 17:12

We went to CP 2 years ago and I loved the spa so much it's one of the main reasons we're going back next week! I found it really relaxing, you don't just sit around in a robe, there's lots of different rooms to go into that smell lovely and sofas to lounge in and read magazines and quiet music playing...after a week of wrestling kids in and out of swim gear and the noise of the pool, it was great to have adult time.

QuantitativeMeasure · 06/03/2009 17:15

I have been to lots of Spas and Aqua Sana remains my fave.

Did see a man with his big todger hanging out though once.

jelliebelly · 06/03/2009 17:22

I have booked treatments and enjoyed them at the spa in Elveden but wouldn't fancy going for a whole day - I don't really think thats the point of going to a Center Parcs. I have been to a "proper" day spa for a day on my own and absolutely loved it - the most relaxing day I've ever spent..

poshtottie · 06/03/2009 17:31

I have just got back and loved the spa but just had treatments, the elemis spa ritual was lovely and 2 hours away from the bedlam was worth it.

nannynick · 06/03/2009 21:30

I've just arrived at Longleat, settling in for a long weekend. Going to the spa alone I find is fine... was a bit nervous the first time, but having now done it a good few times, it's a breeze. I tend to do the 6pm-9pm session (it's the cheapest, plus I find it the least busy especially towards the end - as many parents seem to leave early to go see their DC).

Racers · 06/03/2009 21:36

They have ladies only evenings, so you could look into that? I've been on my own lots of times and loved it and I'm not a spa/treatmenty type of person really. I thought I'd feel out of place etc (all the pretty people in the brochure)
but it was fine, all shapes and sizes - generally relaxing.

I would recommend it

nannynick · 06/03/2009 21:49

Ladies only session is daytime I believe. Here at Longleat, this weekend's ladies only session is on Sunday 9am-12. There isn't a men only session.

giantkatestacks · 06/03/2009 21:52

I havent done the spa session but the treatments are fab and like poshtottie I can recommend the elemis spa ritual.

Why dont you use the babysitting (its very good and reliable) and take dh as well?

Racers · 06/03/2009 22:12

Oh I thought ladies only at Nottingham was an evening slot but could be wrong. Have mostly been to the one at Penrith.

gingerteam · 06/03/2009 22:25

going to CP in the summer and really looking forward to a spa session, hope to go with Hubby but we may have to split depending on childcare arrangements

luckylady74 · 06/03/2009 22:29

I've been to the Sherwood evening session and it was reasonable value. I loved floating in the outdoor pool looking at the stars and I enjoyed working my way around the sauna/ steam room type things. I took a book and I really enjoy being on my own without 3 kids jumping on me-well worth the money for that.

poshtottie · 06/03/2009 22:35

I couldn't believe how busy it was this week. What is it like in the school holidays???

nannynick · 07/03/2009 10:14

Center Parcs does not seem to be much more busy during August, then it is in say March. I think this is due to CP trying to keep occupancy levels high throughout the year. I had thought with the Credit Crunch that CP would be less busy, but I'm not noticing much difference. Maybe it's people like me with savings, who are fed up of getting poor rates of return so are now spending the money instead of saving it!

Docbunches · 07/03/2009 11:56

I was at Longleat during Feb half term and it didn't feel TOO busy but I think that was mainly because a big chunk of lodges were being upgraded and were therefore unoccupied.

Another thing I noticed was that the clientele appeared slightly more affluent than usual, eg, loads of Range Rovers, X5s, etc (not me, I hasten to add!). DP and I had a theory that these were families that would normally go ski-ing but didn't this year, for whatever reason, poss exchange rates?
