Can't help but bumping for you.

chocolateteapot · 15/11/2008 13:03

I think you have another thread somewhere ! I'm not sure whether they have been granted planning permission yet. It was on the front of our local paper a few weeks ago that they were submitting but I didn't ever see that it got granted. It might have been though.

GrabShellDude · 15/11/2008 13:03

Search messages. Seem to remember there was a thread about this last year. Not very complimentary either from what I can recall.

chocolateteapot · 15/11/2008 13:04

The one last year was Lapland UK, which is different.

GrabShellDude · 15/11/2008 13:05

Oh sorry I was wrong. It was a different Lapland Uk experience.

Tommy · 15/11/2008 13:06

a few mums at school have booked but haven't been yet

saltire · 15/11/2008 13:09

I've jsut looked on the website. it says tickets are £30 each but family groups of 4 or more are £25.oo each. Is that £25 per person in the group or for the whole group?

stressed2007 · 15/11/2008 15:00

per person I imagine. Yes quite expensive hence my question as to whether it is any good. Wanted to take my daughter somewhere Christmassy and saw this. If anyone has any other ideas I would be very grateful to see them. Thanks

We have been looking at this my sis sent me an email with a link to it, i was going to ask the same questions as it is very expensive but if it is good then worth the money it's just the knowing before hand, i will watch this thread with interest

mandika · 29/11/2008 21:46

hi i have been to lapland new forest today it was a total let down no market,no magic dust hardly any snow and dont get me started on the light show a complete waste of money i have complained as soon as i got home

janpit · 30/11/2008 19:45

Just come back from Lapland New Forest, would advise anyone who has not booked not to do so. The event is extremely small with almost nothing to do and is without doubt very poor value for money. Extremely long queues for Father Christmas and then a broken printer so you couldn't even get any photos that you may have liked (£10 for 1 by the way).
The only thing that warrants top marks is the web designer for making something so bad look so good

chocolateteapot · 30/11/2008 20:15

Welcome to MN mandika and janpit Sorry to hear about your experience.

I understand from other forums that there has been a flood of bad forum reviews and a journalist from the BBC amongst others are investigating.

After the fiasco of Lapland UK and the bad reviews for that last year plus some rather dubious forum postings on MN regarding it last year (all of which appeared to be heavily promoting it), I decided to hold off getting tickets until I read reviews in the local paper, so am now pleased I have done this.

I have noticed however an influx of new posters on various forums all strongly complaining about Lapland New Forest (which I'm sure I would do if it is as bad as it sounds). However I would urge people to take on board the fact that the internet is a powerful tool and can be used in all sorts of ways, so best wait until the media start reporting before being too worried if you have tickets.

I'm local and will post up any reviews I find in the local press etc or if any of my friends go, but haven't actually heard anyone discussing it round here (but have spent all week out of it with a temperature and haven't heard a lot about anything this week really !)

Unfortunately we too went to Lapland NewForest today- i feel very bad for disappointing my children (aged 3 and 5)and breaking a promise that we'd have the lovely day advertised on the website. Whilst there were indeed some nice animals to see and there was fake snow on some trees- please dont go and waste your money. We never even made it to see Father Christmas -after nearly 2 hours stood in the rain my son was crying and begging to go home so we insisted on getting our presents and left.We are contacting the Trading Standards tomorrow.

The Southampton Echo have some stories about the unhappy people who went along to this:

www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/3938371._Magical__New_Forest_Lapland_attraction_leaves_families_fuming/

and

www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/briefing/indepth/3938439.Angry_mum_s_Lapland_photo_diary/.

They've also got a video showing what it was like.

janpit · 02/12/2008 10:03

The person who submitted change of use for this event to Dorset East District Council was Mr Nash tel:- 01903 877778

ExBat · 02/12/2008 10:04

Mate emailed me stories of its shitness.

UnquietDad · 02/12/2008 10:07

"Christmas attraction is shit" shock. Whatever next?

I hear on the grapevine that the Pope may do the odd bit of benediction, and there was a rumour last year that a bear had once taken a dump in the woods.

CountessDracula · 02/12/2008 10:09

The Metro had a feature on its shiteness today

CountessDracula · 02/12/2008 10:10

Could I just say although it is crap it is fairly authentic looking
It looks no worse than the real lapland!

CountessDracula · 02/12/2008 10:11

(and I bet the food is better in the New Forest)

Hulababy · 02/12/2008 10:11

Saw this on Breakfast TV this morning on BBC1. Apparently there have been thousands of complaints about it but trading standards (or whoever it was) can't do anything about it for some reason. Only one person called in with a good review in the time I saw it.

solidgoldbrass · 02/12/2008 10:13

Well, there's a shitty attraction that you pay £5 for (some local nonce in a nylon beard and a pound-shop 'gift' from the local shopping centre) and there's what appears to be a thorough-going illegal scam like this attraction, where the organisers have completely misrepresented what they are offering (and charging huge amounts of money for). I think Trading Standards, etc, are going to be involved with this one.

wannaBe · 02/12/2008 10:14

I can't understand why they can't close it down.

trading standards have even admitted that this is misselling and have been advising people what to do to get their money back but apparently can't close it down.

I think there will always be people who are underwhelmed by experiences that they pay money for, but from what I've read this just sounds like a travelling funfayre that you had to pay 25 quid to get into and then had to still pay to do everything else (not allowed to see Santa unlessyou pay an extra £10 for a photo etc).

I think there is shite and then there is scam and IMO this has the latter written all over it.
