Was hoping to visit a certain MN'r and make a nice weekend of it and stay somewhere sort of lux and boutiquey, but alas everywhere we've tried so far is booked up, (one till dec), due to the last race of the season inc:

Oswalds
Crab Manor
Solberge hall

We thought of Harrogate, Hotel Du Vin for eg , but wanted to be more in the countryside and nearer to our destination of Northallerton.

Thank you anyone who can help

Somethings telling me we might need to re look at dates later in the year .

I feel for you, really I do - it is such a ball ache looking for hotels - you can go round in circles!!

I presume you have tried lastminute.com/laterooms/expedia/hotelclub.net?

blithedance · 25/08/2008 21:58

We stayed at Swinton Park recently (without the children). It's lovely, but it should be at that price! They make a big thing of anticipating your every need and I read every single tripadvisor review, several from people who said their children had been made very welcome. You could ring them and ask what the scene would be.

The restaurant is small and uber-posh, I truly don't think under-8's would be comfortable there unless they were Little Lord Fauntleroy, and it might be quite a pain for other diners. I think there is a less formal bar/lounge and lots of room service options.

Dig around the website and there are various deals for rooms available, also on laterooms.com.

Just calling Tall trees. Not bad , not as swish as Crathorne, but nice. Its lobby is like a resort hotel abroad!!

Thank you for your help all , esp geordieminx.

Sorry, but I think geordieminx has got the wrong end of the stick about Swinton Park. The charge of £35 is for the child to stay at the hotel, including zedbed/cot as required, breakfast etc. It's not just for the cot. good luck with it though melsy, whatever you go for.

melsy · 25/08/2008 22:14

ahhh thank you geordie , I am going around and around, although there is finally some rooms at Tall trees , 37 twins available to be exact!!!

Lets hope anyone from the races doesnt find this place yet as I have to work out if my two dd's can share thier own double bed, one side with a gaurd on! They offered a cot but she wont stand for that now !!!! Either that or its over £400+ for a 2night stay in their proper family suite!!!!!!!!!!!

Very helpful comments blithedance, I havent contemplated tripadvisor yet, although it is very good way of narrowing things down, mind you as theres no rooms anywere....................!!

I think the cost might be the thing with Swinton.

Yes for that reason we only stayed one night !. Nice pubs in Masham though.

melsy · 25/08/2008 22:31

Xnai on the Tall trees, dh just kyboshed that one. Says its too far , told him to blardy look now !!!!!!

Its all Oswalds fault!!!!!!

OP posts:
smurfgirl · 25/08/2008 22:47

Tall trees is very near Crathorne - no distance really, when I drive from my parents (in Yarm) to Northallerton I actually go a way that goes past Tall Trees and not down the A19.

melsy · 25/08/2008 23:07

Been using google maps and doing numerous searches, so I can see were things are in relation and Ive found this , looks quite nice. Its in Masham , so not sure how far. Ive lost the plot now, its not far from Swinton park , so Im sure Ive looked up the distance before!

Think I need bed!

I would object to paying £35 a night to take my 14 months ds to a hotel though BD. Dp and I have stayed in some fab hotels and we have either taken our own cot or have had one provided free of charge. Even when the child is older the only thing they are really charging for is the breakfast - its not like they are loosing money from providing an extra bed in the room! Its per night also IIRC....

If you decide to stay in Masham youmust go to the Forbidden Corner - although you need to book.

melsy · 26/08/2008 09:49

well I phoned Kings head just now , its took ages and ages to answer and got:

"Im on recepetion on my own can you call back " .

Theres some suspect reviews on trip advisor too???????????????????

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH

Dont know what to do now!

geordieminx · 26/08/2008 10:05

just book somewhere that you can, bollocks to your dp, mine always moans but will never organise anything!

melsy · 26/08/2008 10:59

blaaarrrdyyyyyyyyyyy ell , Kings Head is now booked for us.

BIG PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWW

DH its tough!!!!!

The man who answered was very nice and helpful, hes even reduced our rate fo some reason!!!! He said not to go anywhere near Tall trees lol . He said he wouldn't even send his MIL there pmsl!!!!!! He said their nice looking web site is very deceiving!!

Now either its good hes being honest about somewhere or I should be suspect that hes being critical of another place!

Hope its ok now lol!!!!!

I've not stayed at TT, it used to have a club night on a Friday which used to be really good, not sure what the hotel was like - probably shit if the have 33 rooms left!!

Pleased you got sorted!!

fullmoonfiend · 26/08/2008 12:00

when are you at The Kingds Head? We are staying there on 20th sept!! We've been there several times for family dos and though not posh, is very pleasant and Masham is lovely. (Nice playpark down the hill from markte place, and the fab sweetie shop!

fatzak · 26/08/2008 12:19

I was about to post that Geordiemix! When I taught up in Thirsk, TT was the place to go for a full on big night out!!

I once booked a weekend at the Kings Head in Masham. Or so I thought. When we got there, I had actually somehow managed to book this place and it was dreadful

fatzak · 26/08/2008 12:20

Geordieminx I mean!!

geordieminx · 26/08/2008 12:24

Fatzak - I know the Kings Arms - dp and I stopped for a drink there once on the bike - wouldnt be high on my list of places to stay

Yep they used to run buses to Tall Trees - Wasnt it something like £15 for all you could drink and a big bag of E's

melsy · 26/08/2008 15:19

oh were staying at beginning of Sept fullmoonfield.

Glad Ive got a good recommendation, was also wanting something a little more swanky, but there is nothing at all unless we want to spend a lot lot more.

I did look at Queens head HumphreyCushion, so thank you for the link. I just had to make a decision once and for all! Hope Ive made the right one now, it does look sweet, the Queens head. Strangely it is exactly equal distance to were we are visiting!
