What do you recommend to see. Where abouts to stay.
It's just the 2 of us.
Can we get to Eastbourne easily.

It's about 1hr 20 on a bus to Eastbourne.

What's your hotel budget?

The Grand is amazing obviously. Harbour Hotel has a spa. I think the Leonardo has a pool. There's also Hotel du Vin which is nice. All on the seafront or in the Laines.

What to see - wander in the South and North Laines. Brighton Pavilion. Walk along the beach front from Brighton to Hove, fish and chips on the beach. Sea Life is disappointing, don't bother. If you can, recommend going to the Marina and getting a boat trip out along the Brighton coast, that was fun and not too expensive. Walking along Seven Sisters cliff is a good day trip. Gay bar in Kemptown. Many many restaurants.

@SwipSwopSnipthank you. Haven't decided on the hotel yet.
We quite like premier inns or something similar. More than likely we will be bed and breakfast.
Preferring to eat when we like.

Plenty of Hotels to choose from just depends on budget and if you are taking your car factor in car parking which is quite eye watering.
To visit Eastbourne I would use the train much quicker than the bus and both stations are in the town.
plenty to see and do suggest look at Visit Brighton website
Be aware Pride is early August great fun but can be really busy.

We frequently stay at the Premier Inn in Brighton, whilst it doesn’t look the best from the outside, the staff are so helpful and friendly and it’s a great location. It’s by the Lanes, a couple of minutes to the man high street and a five minute walk away from the beach.

The pier is good to have a wander along - they have 2p machines which are good fun. There is an electric railway along the front, it takes you almost to Brighton Marina for a wander around. There are shops and restaurants at the Marina.

There are bars on the edge of the beach or you can take your drinks on the beach, Brighton is great for sitting and people watching and enjoying sitting on the beach watching the world go by.

There is a great Premier Inn near the beach and the shops we always stay there. When staying there you get a reduction on parking fees in a particular car park.

You can also pop into hotels you aren't staying at, the Grand has a lovely bar inside with a grand piano, really nice for a Friday night drink, they also do a set lunch or afternoon tea menu. I usually take DF there when he comes down.

Hotel peliroco for quirky!

ComplicatedBrunette · 27/01/2026 21:32

Hotel pelirocco - absolutely love it there! Excellent breakfast included if you book direct too.
Food - chilli pickle, burnt orange, the mesmorist. There's a super Italian, i think it's called Donatellos.
Check out komedia, the hope & ruin & green door for gigs & stuff in the evenings. Plus the dome

Over 5 days, visit Lewes maybe?
Take the bus (if you don’t have a car) to Devil’s Dyke and a stroll along the top of the Downs for amazing views

pavillion1 · 27/01/2026 21:43

5 days will be a long time in Brighton

Worryabouteverything · 27/01/2026 21:45

Thank you everyone for your help.
We will be driving from Cheshire. 4 hours 15mins.
Tried to go by train but it is 3/4 or even 5 changes depending on the time. 5 hours 20mins.
We are looking at the maldron hotel or the premier inn.
Looking at which is the best car park.

My young adult ds went to Brighton recently for a day trip and wasn’t that impressed (admittedly, he did go to Brighton in the winter). I think it’s more of a weekend place than a five day place.

Silverbirchleaf · 27/01/2026 21:47

Car parking is very expensive in Brighton, so be aware of this.

louderthan · 27/01/2026 21:49

Definitely go to Lewes, Eastbourne is on the same train line. Both are a nice day out, Lewes castle and Ann of Cleeves house; lots of nice independent shops/cafes/pubs. Eastbourne has the pier and Towner art gallery which has a cinema and a nice cafe bar.
If you like walking there is a nice walk from Glynde station to Lewes over the Downs with stunning views. It’s about 4/5 miles and a google search should bring up the route.

WTFiswrongwithworld · 27/01/2026 21:54

There is a lovely hotel in Rottingdean. Just a short drive or bus journey into Brighton. It’s on the cliffs with a local beach . I think it’s called the White Horses.
Lewes is definitely worth visiting, the lanes full of quirky interesting shops and cafes.
Brighton pride is a spectacle and fun for many people.

I would highly recommend the Maldron, very central location, new with big rooms and they do a good breakfast .They offer a discount on parking in the NCP car park opposite.

Worryabouteverything · 27/01/2026 22:02

Will visit Eastbourne and Lewes. DH is looking at other things to do.
We have booked the maldron.

The bus journey from Brighton to Eastbourne is lovely. Don't just take my word for it.

You can also get a day ticket so you can get on and off so if you get the one that goes round Beachy Head you can get off and have a walk around. Nice pub there for a meal or just a coffee.

littlemisspickles · 27/01/2026 23:31

Having driven the south coast to Southport many times, be aware your journey time is on a good day, five hours is much more realistic.
Recently stayed at the Leonardo, very nice and incredible breakfast. Parking in Brighton is extortionate. Devils Dyke is nice, as is Cuckmere Haven and Alfriston on the way to Eastbourne. Beachy Head, just because, Arundel similar distance in the opposite direction is lovely.

YourJustOrca · 27/01/2026 23:41

It’s nice to walk to Brighton Marina, perhaps have lunch and then either back again or if you like walking then walk the Undercliff walk to Rottingdean. Or you could hire bikes.
