We are three working mums who need a break to celebrate the end of cancer treatment for one of us and have a girly night away. Has to be accessible from Brighton and Manchester by train and do a one night midweek package....suggestions please!! Cost not a huge issue but needs to be reasonable. What really matters is the experience and feel of the place.

Am working away so will check tomorrow for your gems of wisdom. Am getting tired of trawling the internet and I know that one you wonderful MNers will no doubt have the perfect solution!

I think all of the Centerparcs have spas you can use on a daily basis: so Nottingham and Whinfell and Longleat all might be options for your travel needs?

rolf at Pennyhill being tacky.
the new spa is 'obvious' but I think they are aiming for the high tech rather than faux vintage. The main hotel is very nice and the service is good.
The secret is to speak to the bookings people because they are fab and will often get you a better deal than the ones on line.
Of course there are better hotels but few wiyh the facilities on site that pennyhill has.

i still prefer Clivden. The gardens are gorgeous and the food and service are lovely.
But then a footballer apparently had his wedding there last summer so thats apparently going to the dogs too.

..apparently...

Wow, where did everyone spring from???

I've had a look at at some of your suggestions and just want to go to them all tomorrow now.

Spoke to one of the southerners and they are coming round to my offer of picking them up at Stoke station so this is my fave at the mo moddershall oaks. Pretty cheap and they also do a one night stay option. Lots of the others either won't book one night (I got very shirty with the lady at Ragdale last week over this)or do offers for 2 people. Moddershall does a deal for 2 and then you can add an extra one for less money.

Trouble with lots of the southern ones is that although I can get into London in a couple of hours, they then tend to be a trek out again. I was at centreparcs at Easter with the out-laws and the spa was great but think we want more luxury accomodation and def no kids!!!

Just got chicken pox here so looking forward to a spotty and grumpy 2 week school holiady.

i'd be interested to hear your views on Moddershall Oaks if you do go - never been there either

Mottram Hall, Prestbury?

laundrylover · 25/05/2008 21:22

Hi Lil,

I've been to Mottram Hall before but not too impressed. Biggest problem was that we went at weekend and the pool was jammed with very noisy kids! Had to lie down in my room and take ibruprofen. They also messed up our long booked treatments so we all had to have shortened sessions but no money offered back.
