Traveling from East Midlands to Bude in August this year. Will be leaving stupid early (like 3am) to get as far as we can before we hit traffic. Hopefully in Bude for breakfast 😂

Looking for tips on places to stop on the way there and back. What are the best motorway services?

Any good tips in general for travel to/from Cornwall in August?

I would stop at Gloucester services if you need a wee / drink 2 hours ish into your journey from the midlands, then carry on all the way to Bude. At 5am only the filling station (and its loo) will be open, but there’s a nice green space and it will be quiet very early in the morning.

If you get as far as Devon before needing to stop, Whiddon Down is a small services just off the A30 - it has a petrol station and a nice cafe called Hog & Hedge open from 7am.

Sanders Garden Centre just off the M5 at Burnham on Sea is great. It's one of those huge centres with restaurants, coffee shops, Costa coffee etc

As I put up thread, we’re doing a similar journey though a bit longer. We’re in an electric car so will need a good place to charge somewhere between Bristol and our destination if anyone can recommend a good place?

Gloucester is nice but we always aim to be the other side of Bristol by 8am otherwise it starts getting very busy, so Sedgemoor is always our first stop (in Midlands)

Yes, this is my concern, hense the 3am start!

We are going Friday - Friday so will likely travel back late on the Thursday rather than Friday morning.

Gloucester services are lovely but the main bit doesn't open till 6.30 am, I would expect that you will be past Gloucester by then if you are leaving at 3am.

Strawberry Fields at Lifton just before the Tamar crossing. I think it opens at 8am
