Single occupancy hotel surcharge

Just looking at prices for a Glasgow hotel. I'll be visiting my dd who's at uni there. There appears to be a surcharge added for single occupancy rooms. We're talking about a difference between £169 for a room (for 2 people) versus £203 for a room for one person.

That's a massive hike. The single occupancy includes breakfast but the double occupancy only gives it an option. There appears to be no possibility of single occupancy without breakfast.

I'd be treating my daughter to breakfast outside of the hotel so won't want it anyway.

What's to stop me booking a double occupancy room at the cheaper price and just me turning up?

Can you recommend any? Central area or around Sauchiehall St?

I'd avoid the Sauchiehall St area. I use my genius discount too. I always book for two guests if only to get two waters/ two sets of towels etc and no one has ever batted an eyelid. Maybe the Clayton Hotel?

This is just how Booking.com work. The cheapest room they currently have available that meets your criteria is the £169 one. When those rooms are fully booked the cheapest they would have is the single occupancy one. Book it, they won't care if only one person turns up. Also, they won't charge you for breakfast unless you select it.

We stayed at Motel One Glasgow, highly recommend! Rooms are small but nice and communal areas are lovely, price was great. They even posted my earphones back to me after I left them under my pillow!

The cheaper one is room only , the more expensive is including the breakfast for 2

So book the cheaper and go for breakfast elsewhere

Agreed - it's just down to room availability, they won't care if only one person stays there.

The Z hotel is nearby and nice and reasonable, I'm assuming she's in the halls nearby

The more expensive option is for single occupancy, so while it does include breakfast it will only be for one person.

The 169 for two ppl doesn't include breakfast which is £15.50 so if it did include breakfast for 2 ppl then total cost would be £200

The single one for £203 does include breakfast.

Therefore it's only £3 more.

I use booking.com alot the price is per room regardless of if one or two ppl use it. Unless one is a single bed for one person. But if both prices are for a room with a double bed then doesn't matter if 1 or 2 ppl show up.

Just book the £169 and buy breakfast separately as this is still cheaper. Or find nearest coffee shop which is even cheaper than hotel breakfast.

It's not £3 more it is £18.50 more surely as it's only one breakfast?

I'm comparing the prices based on the person occupancy the £169 shows two ppl the £203 shows 1 person and includes breakfast.

If you added breakfast for two people on the £169 it should mean the price is £200.

I have seen this quite often on booking.com when looking for a place in Manchester.
I usually book for 2 when I am travelling alone. For personal safety. Only risk is that in the event of fire, they might be looking for your room mate.
