Favourite Premier Inn in London?

Evening!

In March I am going on a work trip that requires an overnight stay in London.

Our work policy is to book Premier Inn where poss to keep costs down, but I will have sat my final accountancy exam that day so would like to get the best I can get as a little "well done me"!

I can see that the prices vary somewhat...presumably to reflect that some are better (or at least more popular) than others.

Which do people recommend? I'd like to be fairly central so I can easily crawl back after celebratory drinks!

City Hall by Waterloo is my choice, where do you need to be near, there are so many. There are cheaper and nicer hotels than premiers in London.

I stay at St Pancras because it’s handy for where I need to be and for travel from Paddington. It depends really on where you’re going out!

Any other recommendations cheaper than premier inn also welcome I suppose!

I need to get a train the following morning from either Stratford or London Liverpool Street.

If you don’t mind the Premier Inn hub rooms, the one at Marylebone is excellent. Or the one by West Brompton station, which tends to be a bit cheaper if you can be that little further out.

For normal rooms my go to is Southwark, which can be good on price.

BitterTits · 09/01/2025 20:53

Farringdon for me. Easy from Euston.

CagneyNYPD1 · 09/01/2025 20:56

Premier Inn at County Hall for Westminster Bridge, London Eye etc. Or Southwark Bankside which is a stone's throw from Borough Market, the river and the Globe.

I need to get a train the following morning from either Stratford or London Liverpool Street.

In that case my suggestions may not work, but theres also a really good Hub at Shoreditch which is a short walk to Liv St.

thesaskedminger · 09/01/2025 20:57

The new one at Paddington is great, just across the road from the Elizabeth line, and bus stops.

Paddington seems a bit far the other way then but it is on the right line for these stations and only a few mins from central London.

I like county hall best. Location is great.

DisforDarkChocolate · 09/01/2025 21:00

I like Clerkenwell's Hub and the one near Kings Cross (I love a wander around Coal Drops Yard).

The Premier Inn near Borough Market is handy for that area and close to the river.

Another vote for Farringdon. Central but also fairly quiet

MissMoneyFairy · 10/01/2025 10:29

There's Z hotel really near Liverpool street station

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 10/01/2025 10:50

Clerkenwell Hub is the best. Easy access to Stratford or Liverpool St from Farringdon on the Elizabeth Line

The last few times I've been to London, I've got better deals on better hotels than premier inn on sites like Booking.com.

This weekend for example I've got a room at Park Plaza Westminster for £135 on a special deal (this hotel has a swimming pool) the County Hall premier inn which is literally over the road is £180.

If you have to stick to premier inn then I like the Kings Cross one for the location.

BarrioQueen · 10/01/2025 11:28

The idea that Premier Inns are best value is now a myth. Their prices have massively crept up and they have often overtaken Hiltons, Double Trees etc. I'd ceratinly compare elsewhere before you part with your money. Premier Inn now have a new approach - it seems to me to start off with prices high and lower them nearer the date. Do consider looking at some more traditionally 'expensive' hotels as you might get a bargain, and a swim, breakfast or quality toiletries included.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2025 10:08

Another vote for the Marylebone hub. I also rate the hub at Kings Cross.

Had a pretty bad experience there recently- had a thread on here about it! Rooms are fine and location is good but the total inability of staff to do anything (they try their best but the whole place is so understaffed it’s a very sorry state of affairs) is depressing

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/01/2025 10:10

Oh and agree they’re often not the best deal these days. Though they usually are if you have two kids and are after a family room.

Allthebrokenplaces · 11/01/2025 10:12

I love a premier inn if I am on my own, the familiarity is comforting.
My two favourites are Bankside (in Borough market) and Bank.
And I did find that booking the room then cancelling/rebooking it a few days before made the room cheaper. I upgraded to a fancier room in Bankside last time, which was lovely.

BringOnTheSunshineNow · 11/01/2025 13:14

Surely they are all the same & you're just paying for location.

Not really. Some of them are in much need of an upgrade. Some don't have air conditioning. Some are recently refurbished or even brand new. Some are in purpose built premises and some are in really old weird shaped buildings converted. It does make a difference.

Restlessinthenorth · 11/01/2025 13:35

I'd echo the hubs; I like Westminster, Marylebone, King's Cross and brick lane

Ursulla · 11/01/2025 13:41

Both you and your employer are being weird.

Your employer because there are many hotels that are cheaper and nicer than premier inn, both in London and elsewhere, with far more predictable pricing, and I would expect an accountancy firm to know that. It's not a policy that will save any money.

And you are being weird because paying say £150 more for one premier inn room over another doesn't give you anything so great as to amount to a "treat" - there's no spa, or rooftop pool, or decent restaurant, or even room service. You'll just get the same as you always do - a room in a converted office block with windows you can't open - in a different street.
