Madam Tussauds

Hi! We're travelling to Madam Tussauds this weekend, will be arriving at Baker Street around 2pm and our booking at MT is 4pm, so wondered what was around there to do? Our current thoughts are go to Regents Park and let the DC burn off steam for a couple of hours before going MT. But just incase the weather is pants, wondered what else there was within walking distance of MT? Thanks in advance!

Why are you going to the location 2 hours before? There is plenty to do in and around London, it's restrictive to arrive at Baker st 2 hours before you need to.

SharonEllis · 09/10/2024 22:39

You don't need to book tickets to the British Museum, you are just advised to and if you don't book they may not let you in right away if they are at capacity & you may need to queue. Just check the website.

The Wallace Collection is great but not for kids that age! Lots of paintings and fine china. They might enjoy the armoury.

Erm, depends on how parenthood has been approached up to this point. Art was a big thing in our family

What about the Wellcome Collection further down Euston Road towards Wuston. Medical museum with lots of horrible (therefore interesting to many children) historical medical things. Also free.

Borris · 09/10/2024 23:01

My dd loved MT at that age!

hereshewonders · 09/10/2024 23:24

My kids loved MT, it was actually better than I expected.

Are you really sure about going to MT? It’s so unbelievably shit and kids these days just think it’s so strange.

I went earlier this year and really enjoyed it.
Admittedly I went for the Harry Styles waxwork and thought I'd probably leave after, but I didn't as it's great.
The figures are brilliant, they are set out so well and there's loads for kids.

HoHoHoliday · 10/10/2024 00:57

If good weather, stick to the park option. Regents Park is really nice.

If bad weather, as you say you're coming into Liverpool St, there is a really fun indoor crazy golf place called Swingers just 5 minutes from Liverpool St station. You'd have to pre-book to get the right time. It's less than an hour to get around as they limit each player to six attempts per hole. So fun and speedy.
There is a McDs in Liverpool St too if that's the kids favourite.

Took my 9 & 11 yr old to Madame Tussaud’s 2 weeks ago and they loved it! It’s really fun snapping pics and the ride through London is brilliant and the marvel cinema.

Great to hear thanks! One of my boys loves Marvel so we're very excited about that.

British Museum could be good as located between Liverpool St and MT. Be aware that while it is free you need to book tickets for the day, it's a relatively new policy that we were caught out by last time we went. If you do go ask at the information desk about the kids trail backpacks, also free and full of activities to keep them occupied, the Egypt one is great.

Yes I did look that up last night, thanks!

We don't have to go to the location 2 hours before, that is just the time we'll be arriving at Baker Street if we go straight there and I wondered what was around!

This sounds interesting, will take a look - thanks!

@Summertimer my kids have not been brought up on art 😂 but it's always worth a look!

Although the zoo is close by and it’s a great day out it’s not worth going for such a short time as you’d still pay the full entrance fee. We loved MT when my kids were a similar age.

MarkingMyPlace9 · 10/10/2024 06:08

@Livinginaclock great to hear - thanks! We have never taken them into London before, so I just think the whole experience will be exciting for them

If you’re arriving into London by train you can get 2for1 tickets to London Zoo.

Regents Park is lovely though, and in the summer you can hire rowing boats and pedalos to use on the boating lake. I’m not sure if it’s still open in October.

autienotnaughty · 10/10/2024 06:35

We loved MT when we went. (Not Londoners)

Also enjoyed Ripleys believe it or not but not sure how close it is. Andthe history and science museums.

Two hours isn't long though you might be as well doing a bit of shopping/cafe.

Also when we went to MT we queued to get in for 30 min or so. I'd get there a bit before your allocated time.

Oh Riley's is a good idea, thanks. We looked at the Nat History Museum and Science Museum, we're not very good navigating round London, hence why we'd rather just go to where we need to go and stay there! So we decided they weren't really on the way. Thanks for the tip on queueing, we're going to one of their quiet sessions, so hopefully the queueing won't be too much of a problem!

Thanks everyone for the ideas. After all that, we got into Baker Street later than planned and it was peeing it down! So a quick McDonald's and then onto MT 👍
My kids LOVED it btw, especially the Taxi ride and the Marvel part! Even my 5 year old who didn't really know many of them, enjoyed seeing the figures and copying their poses and having photos taken! Really enjoyable afternoon. Thanks again for the ideas, I'll save them for our next trip into London
