Madam Tussauds

Hi! We're travelling to Madam Tussauds this weekend, will be arriving at Baker Street around 2pm and our booking at MT is 4pm, so wondered what was around there to do? Our current thoughts are go to Regents Park and let the DC burn off steam for a couple of hours before going MT. But just incase the weather is pants, wondered what else there was within walking distance of MT? Thanks in advance!

How old are your kids? The Zoo isn't too far if you get a cab or an Uber.

Lived in London for 20 years, Could never understand going to MT, but hey ho.
Bakerloo line from Baker Street to Regent's Park will take you to the zoo or Sherlock Holmes museum.. Fewer than 10 minutes.
If you haven't had lunch Marylebone is literally across the road from Baker Street.

The Wallace Collection is one of the best museums in the country (imo), about a 5 minute walk. Also it's free, unlike MT.

The Wallace Collection is great but not for kids that age! Lots of paintings and fine china. They might enjoy the armoury.

Are you really sure about going to MT? It’s so unbelievably shit and kids these days just think it’s so strange.

We've already booked, so my post is asking for recommendations of what to do nearby, not whether we should go. You don't know my kids to know if they'll enjoy it or not

Right at the top of Baker Street near MT are some food places inc McDs, KFC and Pizza Express.

You could look st the Sherlock Holmes Museum , not sure how younger kid friendly it is and depends how much you know about Sherlock.

Otherwise, I found this about the park:

"Not ideal, but in case you are caught in a last-minute shower, there is a little bandstand/pagoda thing in the lower half of the park where you could picnic. It's hard to describe exactly where it is, but I'll try...if you are entering the park from the Baker Street station area, there is a bridge across the boating lake just about where Baker Street crosses the Outer Circle, and you enter the park. Cross the lake, and turn left on the path. After a short while, the path will be begin to curve to the right. At that point, you should see the Pagoda straight ahead."

Challenge accepted, it’s so unbelievably shit

I have 5 & 7 year old and they love the Wallace. Has massive collection of armour and swords and full knight on horseback. In relation to the art I give them points for finding lions or dragons or griffins and winner gets a small prize. As I said it's FREE.

There's an old school Chinese restaurant just off Baker Street. The lobby has photos of all the rich and famous people that have eaten there.

It had got a bit pricey the last time we went, but it's definitely worth a visit if you can afford it and the kids enjoy that kind of thing.

Thanks, unfortunately the kids wouldn't touch Chinese. The McDonalds is more up their street!

Where are you travelling from? Baker St isn't a main terminus so I'm guessing you're getting the tube there from somewhere.

I'd go to the British Museum and then head to Baker St just before 4. The mummies are fascinating for kids, and just the concourse/roof is worth a visit.
Depending on what topics your kids have been doing at school, there will be something related to that at the BM.

Or go on a bus (a normal one, not the tourist one) and go past Big Ben, houses of Parliament etc.
Or walk up the Mall and look at Buckingham Palace...

Took my 9 & 11 yr old to Madame Tussaud’s 2 weeks ago and they loved it! It’s really fun snapping pics and the ride through London is brilliant and the marvel cinema.

British Museum could be good as located between Liverpool St and MT. Be aware that while it is free you need to book tickets for the day, it's a relatively new policy that we were caught out by last time we went. If you do go ask at the information desk about the kids trail backpacks, also free and full of activities to keep them occupied, the Egypt one is great.
