Somewhere lovely by the sea

I have a big birthday coming up and would like to celebrate with a couple of nights away by the sea, with my husband and possibly our two children (haven't decided yet whether they'll be coming with us or staying with their grandparents Grin). My birthday is in the winter time, but I'd love to be somewhere where we could maybe have a blustery walk on the beach then watch the waves from the hotel. A pool would be perfect, especially if the kids come, but not essential. Anywhere in the south west, south wales or along the south coast would be do-able. Would love any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Some that aren’t particularly ‘budget’ but lovely for something special:
The Hotel Alexandra- Lyme Regis
Harbour Hotel- Sidmouth (has a swimming pool and spa)
Bedruthen Hotel and Spa

Hope you have a fab time wherever you choose

Staunton Sands hotel Devon - never stayed there but looks fab & on a glorious beach. Nothing nearby though.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 30/08/2024 22:29

The Old Success Inn in Sennen, no pool but ticks all the rest of your boxes. Get one of the rooms facing the sea and you'll hear the waves crash throughout the night.

The Alexandra and Saunton Sands are both on my list! I'll take a look at the others, thank you for the suggestions so far Smile

Really? Its hen and stag central at the wrong end and the walk down past the station is awful.

Saundersfoot -St Brides hotel.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/08/2024 23:46

St. Ives, couple of good hotels with pools, Fowey Hall or The Nare Hotel near Veryan.

If budget is not a problem then Baliffscourt is exactly what you are looking for.

Stay at The Pig on the Beach, Studland, Dorset, ticks most of your boxes.

Gribbit987 · 30/08/2024 23:54

Gara Rock Hotel in Salcombe.

We love it and it fits your requirements!

ps Stayed at Bailiffscourt and it’s lovely. But the beach at Climping is shingle.

Arlanymor · 31/08/2024 00:02

Sand beach or shingle? You need to come to Wales for the former and there are loads of lovely places, someone has already said Saundersfoot, which is gorgeous (I’m there next week!), but loads of others too!

YesitsBess · 31/08/2024 00:05

The Witterings in West Sussex. Amazing in any weather.

There's loads to do around the area as well.

Not at all.
But Portland would be better.

Saundersfoot -St Brides hotel.

I was going to say exactly this! Beautiful part of the world, and hotel is fab.

LittleKittenBlue · 31/08/2024 07:57

Defo Saunton sands. Depending on kids ages and if it’s half term they have activities on for the kids. There’s lovely restaurants in braunton/croyde and westward Ho! beach and instow beach are close by which are both fabulous.

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 31/08/2024 08:13

If you are taking small kids, Fowey Hall in Cornwall is lovely and they collected the children from us on Sunday morning to take them to the kids club, so that was a win!
I have heard fab things about the Scarlett, adult only in Cornwall.

And Dartmouth is gorgeous, with an amazing fish restaurant owned by Mitch Tonks, but we have always self catered there so no knowledge of hotels.

legosnowqueen · 31/08/2024 08:17

Watergate Bay is lovely!

Isle of Wight? 360° beaches and the ferry over makes it feel like you're travelling somewhere abroad.
