Legoland Windsor - what do I need to know?

Splaxo · 22/06/2024 18:40

First ever trip to Legoland Windsor with DC 6 and 9.

What do I need to know? What are the essential rides? Should we do some stuff before others? Any other tips from those who have been before?

TIA!

There is hardly any seating - take some decent walking shoes. There isn’t as much Lego as you’d expect and parts seem very dated. Lots of things cost extra money as you go round.

When you arrive, go straight to the back of the park and work forwards. the Dragon is a very popular ride towards the back of the park. Soon after the park opens you should be able to get on it quite quickly.
Take a picnic – there are plenty of places to sit and eat. Miniland has a picnic area and also in Adventure Land there are places to sit. We normally eat while watching a show or queuing.
Avoid the wettest rides at the start of the day, especially if you don’t have towels and a change of clothes. We once did these first on a slightly chilly day and spent the rest of it feeling cold. It’s not worth it. On the flip side, don’t leave them to the end of the day otherwise you might not be able to dry out before the journey home.
The Pirate show in the centre lake was brilliant fun and the dc love it. Try not to miss it (you can find show times on all the interactive boards around the park).
When the park is getting closer to closing time this is a great time to hit the big rides such as Atlantis Submarine Voyage, Viking River Splash and The Dragon.
Mythica (best ride in the park!), Monster Party and Spinning Spider can fit on loads of people at at time so the queues go much quicker than rides that can only fit on a few people at a time (like Destiny’s Bounty for example).
If you want to visit the shop, go during the middle of the day when it is much quieter.
You can arrive at the park for 9.30 to explore Miniland before the rides open at 10.
You can join a ride's queue right up until it's closing time, it is the queue that closes then and not the ride.

Gymmum82 · 22/06/2024 18:59

It’s rubbish.
The queues are longer than any other park we’ve ever been to.
There is barely any Lego.

It’s basically just a theme park. Which isn’t what I was expecting, I should probably have researched it better. But when I went to legoland Denmark as a child it was nothing like this and I was expecting similar. Wouldn’t go back even if it was free

Whinge · 22/06/2024 19:05

Have you already booked? If not then I urge you to reconsider, and if possible visit Legoland Billund and the Lego house instead.

Legoland Windsor is best described as an expensive disappointment. There's very little Lego, and as a theme park there often long queues for rides that aren't really worth it.

RandomMess · 22/06/2024 19:06

Get there early early for the parking and everything. I think the food places at the front open before the park does.

There is a water splash play area.

The driving lessons and boat things queue are ridiculously long.

I hated it but lived local so could pop in using an annual pass.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/06/2024 19:08

Wear stout shoes 👞. If you step on a 'rogue brick' if can really take the fun out of the day. 😧

Procrastinates · 22/06/2024 19:11

I agree with others if you haven't booked yet don't!

I would instead echo the suggestion of visiting billund. It would probably cost less.

MyPrettyLittlePony · 22/06/2024 19:11

Don’t. We did it last year, 2 hours cueing for each 2 minute underwhelming ride, people with fast tickets walked straight on, and the ques barely moved.

The only way I’d ever even consider going again is if I paid for the fast ticket upgrade for everyone.

User1974 · 22/06/2024 19:12

Wasp Land? Main tip is to avoid it all together but if you must go do not take sugary treats that will smear all over children and bring the clouds of wasps.....

Splaxo · 22/06/2024 19:14

Thank you, especially the detailed reply from @Forgottenmyphone! Yes all booked, going tomorrow!

Get a Q-bot, there’s no point visiting without one! It’s soo busy but I think the food was ok and very reasonable.

Splaxo · 22/06/2024 19:16

Sorry, not going tomorrow, going on Monday as its a school inset day, so hoping it will be less busy!!

It's an inset for a lot of schools on Monday I think it will probably be just as busy unfortunately.

There’s a lot of negativity on this thread! We have Merlin passes and my two younger children absolutely adore legoland.

I will add that the Viking river splash hasn’t been working at all since we got our passes nearly two years ago! I think it’s permanently closed?

we often go on the flight of the sky lion near closing time as the queue is so much shorter, and like a pp says, they only close the queues at park closing time.

Lolz at suggesting booking a whole trip to Denmark instead of a simple day trip to a theme park! 😂

I don't think it's negativity so much as having been there and done that providing an accurate description of what it was like in the hope you can save some other person from experiencing the same disappointment.

I suppose it's different if you can go many times with passes but if you're only going once then isn't it better for people to be honest?

BiscuitsForever · 22/06/2024 19:23

Dd loved it. Yes there are queues etc, just be prepared and take some games and snacks that you can use while you're waiting. The food offerings are a bit nothing so I would take a picnic. The fire engine queues get really long, but it is really good fun so worth the wait. I hope you have a lovely time. We went on an inset previously and it was great as dd was able to get on loads of rides.

Edited

Fair enough.

I will admit that on a hot, sunny day it’s absolutely RAMMED and not much fun. We’ve been twice when it was like this and if you go on a cooler (even rainy) day, it’s a completely different experience and a million times better.

I hope it’s not too busy tomorrow OP, as the weather is probably going to be nice.

the crazy golf is good for kids if you fancy that, although you do have to pay an extra £10 each!

Splaxo · 22/06/2024 19:27

Well I'm definitely going, can't back out now! I appreciate the practical advice I have received.

Have you paid to be able to skip queues? If not it might be worth upgrading so you're able to experience more of the park.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 22/06/2024 19:32

Confortable shoes are a must. I'd also take food if you can. We all loved the flight of the sky lion.

GHSP · 22/06/2024 19:34

Take some piriton - there are lots of wasps. Get the app which tells you about ride waiting times. Don’t expect too many rides and don’t forget the non-ride attractions. There are a couple of nice playgrounds. Take the kids’ swimwear. The splash area can get very busy so don’t leave it too late. I’d do the dragon and Atlantis then head to the splash area.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/06/2024 19:35

Pay for a qbot. It's worth it.

aloysiusflyte · 22/06/2024 19:43

We went about a month ago on a Friday and a Saturday and didn't see a single wasp! Queues were about 40-50 minutes at the worst on the Saturday, definitely download the app as it tells you the queue times.

Tips - We loved The Flight of the Sky Lion best of all so definitely worth queuing for.
Go round the shop at the middle of the day as it is completely quiet and you can look at everything.
Go and see the 4D Lego film, only about 15 minutes by good fun.
Minifigure speedway was also good but does go backwards and it hurt my neck!
There's loads of Lego to see in Miniland
Don't get drawn into trying to win something on the games around the park cos they're expensive
Take a picnic cos the food prices are extortionate
There's places around to fill up water bottles

We had a great time and enjoyed it!

Thank you, but I can't find a ride called Atlantis??
