Legoland Windsor - what do I need to know?

First ever trip to Legoland Windsor with DC 6 and 9.

What do I need to know? What are the essential rides? Should we do some stuff before others? Any other tips from those who have been before?

TIA!

I love Legoland. We have a ride access pass for DS so can't comment too much on queues. However he did go there on a school trip last year and managed ok as they weren't busy on a weekday.

Keep an eye on queue times in the app today and I think that will give you an indication of where the peaks are during the day.

my favourite rides are flight of the sky lion, the log flume and laser raiders.

There's some really nice play areas too. 6&9 is a good age for everything there as well.

Thanks again for all your replies.

I've just had a last minute panic. Both adults will be carrying backpacks all day with lunch, water, snacks, swim clothes, towel etc... Are we allowed to go on the rides carrying backpacks? And if not where do we put them?

Hey OP - am so glad you started this thread, as we’re going next month and although have been before, I wanted some advice on fast passes! (And other “hacks” as felt we didn’t really make the most of it, although we did have a lovely day, so don’t worry about the negative replies here)

Can anyone advise- which is better value/ more useful- the one shot pass or the cheaper reserve and ride? I can see lots of ride exclusions in the cheapest pass & the rides DS will care most about are the “big ones”- So one shot seems most sensible? Didn’t use a pass at all last year and although we did make it onto 7 or 8 rides, the queuing was endless…

Re: bags though- I’m a single mum so ALWAYS worry about this as no one to hold the bags!. At legoland there are places you can leave your bags by the rides if you need to (within the ride itself - by the track or whatever). I get around “leaving my stuff” by having a waterproof lanyard-y thing that I put my phone and bank cards in, so nothing I leave is valuable. (Take my sweaty tuna sandwiches if you want! 😅)

If you get travel sick, avoid the haunted house ride. Hideous. The whole room spin slowly like being inside a drum. I thought it would be a spooky walk through effect, not a nauseating ride.

This. I will never go on it again!

BrutusMcDogface · 23/06/2024 09:53

Yes, there are cubbies to put your bags in when you’re on rides.

Agreed. My daughter is still slightly traumatised and convinced she went upside down. My eyes were telling me I was upside down but my bag was on the chair next to me so I knew that couldn’t be the case 😂

kiteless1 · 23/06/2024 10:49

Yep, always somewhere to put bags. FotSL has cubbies where you sit in and get ready, rides like Dragon have bins on the exit side of the train to put them in. The log flume just ask and the staff will look after it for you.

Wishitsnows · 23/06/2024 11:06

If you stay til late in the day many rides have barely any queues. I think a lot of people must arrive as it opens and leave a few hours before closing.

happysunr1se · 23/06/2024 11:06

Unlike chessington they don't have places selling freshly fried hot ring donuts, I was very disappointed.

There is, however, a bubble tea stand which my daughter is delighted about!

How was your day @Splaxo?

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 24/06/2024 20:54

It was nobody's fault as such but I will never forgive them for the dissapointment caused to my 7 year old last year in his birthday.

Hours and hours queuing for a less than 2 minute ride. I wish I had stretched my budget for the fast passes. I will never forget his tears.

Hello, it went reasonably well I thought! Unfortunately there were a few hiccups in the afternoon, which took the shine off things, and reminded me of the downsides of any theme park like this.

We took the advice to get there early, and fast jogged down to the Flight of the Sky Lion, which hands down was the best ride I have ever been on, superb! We meandered around the rest of the morning going on a few smaller rides, did the driving school, and watched the pirate show which my youngest loved. We had lunch around mini land and went on the new minifigure speedway roller coaster, which again we all really enjoyed.

The kids were boiling by this point so we headed to Drench Towers only to be told it was closed as it was not a "peak" day! So they went in the splash safari which was fine. Then we headed back to ride the minifigure speedway again, but after 20mins in the queue we were told the ride had a problem so had to leave. Annoying.

We bimbled around and caught a 4D show which was great, the headed to Laser raiders, and unfortunately again after queuing for about 40 minute we were told there, was a power cut and the ride wouldn't be running! They gave us some single use priority tickets which we then used in Ninjago, which I actually thought was not that great after all the hype.
We finished the day just before 5pm with a trip on the log flume and got soaked, but it was perfect timing for a slow walk back to the entrance, and pester power leading to lego purchased in the shop!

Overall I think it was a decent day, we were very unlucky I think to get two broken rides almost back to back, and it meant we lost over an hour of queuing time for nothing. But we stayed positive, and some people we know said it was much less busy today than it usually is so the Inset day worked out.

The kids even got to build a few bits of lego here and there!

Many thanks for all your advice, the best bit was running to get on the Sky Lion at the beginning and walking straight onto the ride!

Sounds like a pretty good day! Also seems like there are a few new rides since we were last there a few years ago - time for a retro visit with my giant teens I think!
We’ve had that with the rides closing while in the queue - it’s annoying but sometimes you actually save time in queuing as you can get onto a “big” ride with a much worse queue. I bet your legs were tired - it’s quite a workout. I don’t miss going there with a double buggy…. Agree about ninjago - it was a bit pants. The shooting ones like that and laser raiders can be hit and miss - laser raiders is better, but sometimes it takes the kids a while to get the hang of it.

How were the queue times? I’m thinking of taking my son on Thursday as it’s the last chance to go mid week before he starts school so hoping it’s not too busy! Thanks

@Penfold1635 do you mean your DC is age 4 and about to start school? If so the rides for kids that age are always quite short queue times, less than 5-10 mins max. The bigger rides went to 30-50 mins waiting times, but it did fluctuate throughout the day.
I'd say download the app today and look at the wait times at various times of the to see for yourself.

Thanks, we went at the weekend once and all rides, even those in duploland etc for younger children had such long waits so glad to hear they were shorter mid week!
