Where to visit in Liverpool?

What do you recommend to do in Liverpool? It's just two adults. Happy to do most things and would like to visit things fairly central (ie not use transport once we're there) - we don't mind a bit of a walk.

Beatles Experience and Cavern Club. Albert Dock and Liverpool One for shopping Maritime Mueseum.. Ferry cross the Mersey is fun. Loads of nice places to eat, depending on what type of food you like.

Armoury museum.

Those previous threads pretty much cover a lot, but I would suggest having 2 itineraries, one for warm dry weather and one for drizzle.

The adage "if you can see the Welsh mountains, it's going to rain. If you can't see them, it's raining already ", will stand you in good stead.

Not been myself, but I'd like to go one day.

Western approaches underground bunker is excellent. Mersey ferry (there is a round trip river explorer). Get off at Seacombe for a lovely walk along the river and then jump on the ferry to get back to Liverpool again.

Liver Building tour!

Marjoriefrobisher · 12/05/2024 13:58

Maray (Albert Dock and Bold Street) is a great place to eat.
‘I went to the Walker Art Gallery for the first time in years -I’d forgotten how good it was. There is the Tate too which has some great books about the ´Pool in its shop.
The Slavery Museum (Albert Dock again) is good but needs more space. They could make it two or three times bigger quite easily. I’m surprised they don’t, many people from the US come to see it.

Marjoriefrobisher · 12/05/2024 13:59

oooh and the cathedrals. Especially the Anglican one (bite me). Near the best of the Georgian architecture too if that floats your boat.

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/05/2024 14:05

I didn't know you could do a tour of the Liver building, brilliant.

Western approaches is really interesting.

The museums on the whole are very good and most of them free.

Cavern pub is worth a visit if you like live music and the whole atmosphere around Mathew Street is fantastic.

Around Albert Dock area is lovely for just wandering.

Some of the museums and galleries, inc the Walker, are being hit with periodic strikes at the moment and therefore closed, so check their websites or social media before firming up your plans.
But all of the above are worth visiting, especially the two cathedrals & Georgian Quarter.
Western Approaches is really interesting.
Museum of Liverpool on the waterfront.
Bus or train to Crosby Beach for "Another Place" (aka the Iron Men),but check the tides first.
Hop on a bus to South Liverpool for Sefton Park, the Palm House and Penny Lane. Lovely cafe the Watering Can, by the way, in that area.
Bus or train to Prescot for the fabulous Shakespeare North Playhouse - book a show or guided tour of the replica Jacobean theatre.

Do you mean the Western Approaches in Croxteth?
