Can anyone recommend a day out somewhere in any Yorkshire region that will entertain a:
63 yr old
42 yr old
24 yr old
36 yr old
11 yr old

Already done Xscape Castleford, Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, The Forbidden Corner, Doncaster Dome, Whitby, Scarborough beach.

Museums and stately homes probably not for us, as several people not particularly interested in history unless it's very engaging and fun.

Open to any other ideas though, as struggling to find something that's suitable for everyone.

We all enjoy walking and the outdoors, but two people have arthritis so can't be overly strenuous.

Thanks!

York dungeons or Jorvik centre perhaps?

Watto1 · 21/03/2024 21:58

The Deep in Hull

Lemonnhoney · 21/03/2024 22:04

RHS Harlow Carr
Fountains Abbey
Rivleux Abbey
Hiring a canal boat for the day from a place such as Skipton (North Yorks)
Yorkshire sculpture park
Bempton cliffs (definetly in June to see puffins and other sea birds!)
Steam train ride from Bolton Abbey/Embassy or Goathland (North York moors)
Saltburn

Appreciate they are all outdoor/walk based but all could be a slower wander.. Harlow Carr especially would be great for all them ages if you enjoy gardens 😊

Lemonnhoney · 21/03/2024 22:05

Salts Mill/saltaire is worth a day out too!

Ilovewineitdoesntlovemeback · 21/03/2024 22:09

Where are you based? Yorkshire pretty big.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/03/2024 22:09

Weve just spent a week in York
Jorvik is amazing and really engaging, not just glass cases of rusty pins and mouldy leather.

York Castle Museum is really really engaging - a whole Victorian street made from reclaimed shop fronts, the prison cells are fab with projections of prisoners' stories, the museum provide baby carriers and (AND!) the best tea and cake we had anywhere.

Apart from that we are in Sussex so can't help!

Xylenegy · 21/03/2024 22:12

York Chocolate Story
Treasurers House in centre of York. They do tours which really engaged my whole family.
We also loved Eden Camp.

There's absolutely loads to do in Yorkshire. Spoilt for choice.

pizzaHeart · 21/03/2024 22:23

National railway museum at York, travel by road train both ways or just one , then back to Yorkshire museum gardens for a picnic and then wonder around museum. Also Art gallery round the corner.
We went a few years ago so don’t know what’s on now but you can check online. All places are quite close so you can be flexible in how much walking you do.

Piece hall in Halifax, and/or Howarth?

PuttingDownRoots · 21/03/2024 22:27

Coal mining museum

loobylou10 · 21/03/2024 22:34

PineappleEye · 21/03/2024 22:48

Dalby Forest, and stop off in some of the nearby towns/villages

BamberGirl · 21/03/2024 22:54

Not Yorkshire but easy access from the A1…Beamish, we often meet family there from 8-80 years and all happy, plus brilliant cafe and sweet shop!

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 21/03/2024 23:31

The Deep, Hull. North Yorkshire Moors steam train, Pickering to Whitby.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park has been one of my top 5 UK days out. Definitely recommend, fun for all ages.

Fantastic idea, my dad age 75 did one with us last year and loved it!

Where are you based? Yorkshire pretty big.

I'm in the South East, relatives are in West Yorkshire. I'm visiting them. We all drive, so anywhere in Yorkshire is fine.

My god, the 63 yr old would die if I tried to shove her on a surf board! She would not be happy at all if I arranged this. The look on her face though, just imagining that really tickles me though 😂

Saltburn has beach huts you can hire, so surf lessons for the adventurous and cups of tea for the none Grin

ThroughThickOrThin · 23/03/2024 07:45

Some great ideas here though, I'll have a good look through these suggestions and see how agreeable they are.

I did suggest some light orienteering from How Stean Gorge, but our WhatsApp group fell silent at this and nobody has responded, so I take that as a resounding 'no!' 😁

Settle-Carlisle railway is a nice day out, or the Sculpture Park/Hepworth, or Marsden Tunnel for a canal ride.

PuttingDownRoots · 23/03/2024 07:49

I know you've already done Yorkshire wildlife park, but there's been loads of new animals recently.

Including four new lions this week, Ukrainian rescues. (Mum and three cubs)

This is what I was going to suggest

Yorkshire Sculpture Park? There is a nice farm shop nearby called Blacker Hall Farm, so you could go for brunch first then wander around the sculptures. Walking can be as long or as short as you want (it’s massive!).

Marsden and Slaithwaite are pretty villages. You can park at one or the other and walk along the canal path to the other village for a nice couple of hours there and back. It’s flat so easy walk. Plenty of great cafes in both villages to stop for coffee/ tea/ cake break. There’s also a lovely microbrewery mid way called zapato, on the weekend they often have pop up food. It can be accessed from the canal path.

Halifax Piece Hall is nice for a wander, some history and cool old buildings, and has some interesting independent shops. There is an escape room there too, which might be fun. Maybe not your thing but there’s also a small indoor butterfly garden (called ‘jungle experience’ but that’s a bit misleading! It’s ok but don’t expect a jungle 😂) and small walled garden in Manor Heath Park, close to Halifax town centre.
