We self cater in cottages.
we have two dogs, no kids.
We need walks from the cottage.
secure garden
Must have king size bed .
dog friendly pub or cafes
beach nearby would be perfect.
love forest walks

mustn’t be in a town centre - one dog is very noise sensitive and stresses around too many people.

We usually go to Dumfries or Northumberland but looking for somewhere a bit different. Shropshire is lovely area but too busy for the dog.
Only looking for 4 night. Max budget £525.
recommendations please even if only suggesting an area.

lytham st Anne’s ?

Lytham and st Anne's would both be too busy for the OPs dog, I think.

lytham st Anne’s ?

The OP thinks that Shropshire is too busy. I'm not sure she'd cope with Lytham! Grin

You want East Lothian not West Lothian! But it's over 4 hours from Manchester, maybe 4hours of driving time at a push depending on where you're going from/to.
The Scottish Borders might be worth investigating, they're a lot less touristy than the areas north of the central belt. But you wouldn't have easy access to beaches.

Easy- Anglesey! Ideally round Newborough or Rhosneigr

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 24/11/2023 11:00

Anglesey? Or north wales/snowdonia?

If Shropshire is too busy, don't go to Bowness. what about the Peak District or Angelsey?

Mischance · 24/11/2023 11:03

North Wales.

I am still laughing at the ‘Shropshire is too busy for a dog!’ Do you realise we are one of the least populated counties? I am in the north of Shropshire and most of our friends have dogs that they manage to take for long walks by the canals and meres or in the woods along Offa’s Dyke or Watt Tyler’s Way. We have foot paths too.

The nearest place to Manchester for beach and forest walks is the Sefton Coast. Some parts are busy, others less so eg the ainsdale section. I don't know if there's anywhere suitable to stay in that area but if you've not been you might want to try it for a day trip.

Weve got a noise sensitive collie and hes in heaven in Mablethorpe, theres a huge beach thats dog friendly all year round. Pick a week day and you can hardly meet anyone. Also another vote for Norfolk, but it is a trek to get there.

Yep, Shropshire is too busy for our dog….he really is a stress-head. One of a kind.
I agree that there are lovely quiet areas to go and amazing walks where you see next to no-one. It really is an outstanding area.
but don’t forget, there are two adults here too, who want to be able to potter around a village and get a coffee or go into a pub. All the decent size villages in Shropshire are touristy. If there are no tourists, then it tends to be because there isn’t much there to actually ‘do’ as such.

Our holidays tend to consist of long, quiet walks in the mornings, then into the car and plan a driving route, taking in a few villages to potter around. We like looking at High Street shops, but not having to dodge lots of people who want to do the same.

Very nearly booked a cottage in Mablethorpe!! It was quite expensive though and we would have had to compromise on a double bed and a garden with a low wall which the BC would have been able to jump over. May try booking in this area for 2025 and start looking a lot earlier so there is more choice.

Holiday cottage booked for a great price just outside Lockerbie.😁

So you want somewhere nice with things to do but which no one else goes to? Confused
