We self cater in cottages.
we have two dogs, no kids.
We need walks from the cottage.
secure garden
Must have king size bed .
dog friendly pub or cafes
beach nearby would be perfect.
love forest walks

mustn’t be in a town centre - one dog is very noise sensitive and stresses around too many people.

We usually go to Dumfries or Northumberland but looking for somewhere a bit different. Shropshire is lovely area but too busy for the dog.
Only looking for 4 night. Max budget £525.
recommendations please even if only suggesting an area.

Lake District. I like Bowness on Windemere.

Western Lake District, maybe somewhere in/near Ennerdale? That would give you both forest and coast not too far away. There's a lovely cafe/shop in Ennerdale village which is dog friendly.

Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire? The beach is dog friendly, out of season (season is beg May to end Sept)

ZenNudist · 19/11/2023 08:40

Peak district is lovely and so near. Trips to chatsworth bakewell walk/ bike monsal trail, heights of Abrahams

How about Newborough in Anglesey? This cottage has a Superkinf bed but I'm not sure about the garden. For those views though, with access to the forest and beach I'd put mine on a lead for the garden.

Shropshire Hills AONB.

No more than a couple of hours away and should offer what you are looking for (apart from the beach!)

MiddleagedBeachbum · 19/11/2023 12:08

Lake District!

DahliaJ · 19/11/2023 12:12

North Norfolk? Wells Next the Sea and surroundings.

BebeBelge · 19/11/2023 12:26

Just over the border - East Lothian. Huge empty beaches or country park/ First walks. Lots of dog friendly pubs and cafes.

MrsJellybee · 19/11/2023 12:28

The Cotswolds

Exasperatednow · 19/11/2023 12:31

Sorry just seen only one dog.

EwwSprouts · 19/11/2023 13:57

Staithes.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2023 14:07

I don't have a specific recommendation but there must be loads of places in north wales coast inc Anglesey that would fit the bill, it's very accessible from Manchester.

SequinsandStiIettos · 19/11/2023 20:24

Chester/Llandudno?

Twentymorequestions · 20/11/2023 06:04

Wow. Some great suggestions.
Lake District and Shropshire are too busy unfortunately, we’ve been before and have struggled with the dog.

Western Lake District is a possibility though, I’ll have a look there @nearly55.

We went to Anglesey last year. North Wales is another possibility, but I do seem to have a habit of booking something that’s 10 miles down a single track road which neither of us likes driving along!

Norfolk is a tad too far.

Just had to Google Staithes, that looks great, so will look there too @EwwSprouts.

West Lothian and Lincolnshire are areas we have never been to so will also look at these @BebeBelge and @MalcolmTuckersSwearBox .
Will be back to let you know what I find.

North Wales, obviously!

Ffsebok · 20/11/2023 07:13

Shropshire is too busy for the dog? What, all of it? The Long Mynd is enormous, deserted and fabulous. If even that is too much for the dog, then it sounds like you need to visit a series of secure fields.

That was exactly my reaction.

The place A.E. Houseman wrote about as being "The quietest place under the sun", and a local tourist attraction refers to as "the Secret Hills".

Not sure the OP can have visited the rural SW Shropshire I occupy, or maybe they just had an unlucky first experience?

Second the Peak District

wherethewildtbingsgo · 22/11/2023 12:01

Definitely the East Yorkshire coast. Ticks all your boxes.

SoftSheen · 22/11/2023 12:04

Might be slightly over 4 hours, but the North Norfolk Coast would suit you perfectly.
