We are looking at Criccieth (which we love) or Whitby (also love) but also want to look at other options.
Teen and her boyfriend will be coming with us. They get up late/we get up early so we need somewhere that has half decent public transport links for them. This means DH and I can go off in the car and do our thing and they can either go into the town/on the beach/take a train ride to somewhere without us. Or come with us if they want to.

Budget friendly too.

Any ideas? Literally any East West or South coast option

Thanks

Tynemouth, no contest. Amazing beaches all up the Northumbrian coast, plus excellent food and drink, and the metro runs all around the place including into Newcastle 'for the young people'.

BaffledOnceAgain · 13/10/2023 17:48

Mumbles, but I might be biased as I live here!

whiteroseredrose · 13/10/2023 17:50

Llandudno? Not been for years but it was a classic seaside town.

Ooo thank you.

Tenby.

IndiKid2015 · 13/10/2023 19:28

Another vote for Tynemouth or Whitley Bay. So many lovely beaches in driving distance for you, public transport to Newcastle for your teen.

Porthmadog in North West Wales.

lovely town, heritage steam train service, lovely harbour, huge beach. Great restaurants, shops and pubs.
Good accommodation on booking.com and AirBNB are the flats in South Snowdon Wharf. Excellent location overlooking harbour and walkable for town and pubs / restaurants

Rumfest · 13/10/2023 19:34

And an easy drive to Snowdon, Llanberis, Beddgelert, Betws Y Coed and Caernarfon / Llandudno. LOADS of fabulous scenery and places to see. Zipworld, Snowdon train up to the summit. National Slate museum so many things to do for you all.

Sandbanks - they can hang out at the upmarket cafes and bars on the beach and by the harbour - then either cycle along the beach path or hop on the bus into bustling Bournemouth if they want shopping and clubs.....or head the other way towards the beautiful beaches of Studland and Swanage.

You get to explore the stunning world heritage coast - Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, West Bay - beaches and cliff walks - also Isle of Purbeck, Brownsea Island. Dancers Ledge, Worth Matravers, Chesil Beach.

One of the best micro climates in the UK - warm and dry.

Lovely suggestions. Much appreciated

How far do you want to drive? Aberdour coast line is great and on the trainline for Edinburgh.

stargirl1701 · 13/10/2023 21:28

We are in Seahouses now. It's lovely.

nosta · 13/10/2023 21:33

Abersoch

bellinisurge · 13/10/2023 22:37

@RoseBucket Cornwall might be too far sadly but, other than that, all options open.
Cornwall will probably be on the list when Dd leaves home.

Tenby would be good with teens. Lots of boat trips, water sport options around there if they're into that kind of thing.

Houseplantmad · 15/10/2023 09:24

Rotherslade/Langland or Caswell Bays in Mumbles. The first two adjoin at low tide and have better transportation than the other and are easily walkable into Mumbles, with buses further afield. Gorgeous beaches.

DeathMetalMum · 15/10/2023 09:31

Criccieth is lovely, one of my favourites.

I'd suggest Aberystwyth, we love New Quay which is about 30/40 mins away from Aberystwyth but transport links pretty non existent. Teens would like Aber and there's also plenty of places nearby that you and dh can drive to.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2023 13:14

Thank you. Criccieth is awesome, isn't it? Best chips west of Whitby.

Lytham is nice. Lots of upmarket bars and restaurants. Nice beaches. Polar opposite of Blackpool , which is very close. We love Whitby and found Lytham surprisingly nice too, but very flat in comparison to the hills of Whitby.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 16/10/2023 17:06

Porthmadog as mentioned above. The rains will take you to a lot of other towns and Cariad Gelato is worth going to alone. Do a brewery tour of Purple Moose, go on the steam train or walk to Borth y Gest.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2023 20:08

@dwgs good call but I grew up in Blackpool
