How about a mumsnet houseswap thread?

I housesat for someone last year and we really enjoyed it - free holiday in a proper house!
Wondered if there was any mileage in a mumsnet house swap board, since hols are so expensive with kids, and since each others houses would have TOYS and maybe baby equipment already there?

We'd like a house by the seaside please!
We have a largish house in Durham, with 2 cats and 4 chickens to be fed!

great idea but don't have a house by the seaside sorry.

hellish · 27/02/2008 15:04

House swap topic would be good, we live in Ottawa Canada and we are thinking about a house swap for next summer (2009) when we visit UK for a wedding.
4 beds, big garden and a pool anyone interested in considering it?
(Just an idea for now, not ready to make firm arrangements)

foxythesnowman · 27/02/2008 15:07

I think its a good idea, I'm a big fan of houseswapping.

foxythesnowman · 27/02/2008 15:08

hellish, where do you want to be based in UK? South-west London any good?

hellish · 27/02/2008 15:16

sorry foxy, need to be more Midlands / South Yorks, or possibly Lancs.

S1ur · 27/02/2008 15:25

I'm in Sheffield, 3 bed semi, garden. restricted by term-time though. Might consider swap...

WideWebWitch · 27/02/2008 20:48

Hellish is Bucks any good to you?

I'm up for this but not sure anyone would want to swap with us tbh.

moondog · 27/02/2008 20:50

Countess Dracula tries to get this up and running every now and then.
Actually we did houseswap with her in October (London/North Wales) and it was brill.

morningpaper · 27/02/2008 20:51

I don't want the house with the Rotterweilers in the back garden

I REALLY don't want it

rookiemater · 27/02/2008 21:50

How about using the NCT houseswap register instead ?

Its all set up for the purpose including yahoo boards where you can post your photos and only costs £35.0 for the year.

We have swapped twice through it and both times it has worked out well.

choosyfloosy · 28/02/2008 19:29

There is a houseswap topic on here (or there used to be) - thinking about it i haven't looked for ages [checks]

McDreamy · 28/02/2008 19:29

How about Cyprus?

choosyfloosy · 28/02/2008 19:30

it seems to have gone - how embarrassing! hope no one on there was trying to get in touch with me. i have done a swap on here and it was fantastic for me but still feel a bit embarrassed about the general state of my house, though the swapper was much too nice to say anything
